१३- हलोऽनन्तराः संयोगः।13. halo'nantarāḥ saṁyogaḥ.हलः प्रथमान्तम्, अनन्तराः प्रथमान्तं, संयोगः प्रथमान्तं, त्रिपदमिदं सूत्रम्।halaḥ is in the nominative (prathamā) case, anantarāḥ is in the nominative case, saṁyogaḥ is in the nominative case; this sūtra has three words.
अचों से अव्यवहित हल् संयोगसंज्ञक होते हैं।Consonants (hal) that are unseparated by any vowel (ac) take the name saṁyoga (saṁyoga-saṁjñā).
संयोग माने साथ होना।saṁyoga means being together.संसार में विजातीयों के साथ होने को भी संयोग कहा जाता है किन्तु व्याकरण में सजातीय हल्-हल् के साथ होने पर ही संयोग माना गया है।In the world the being-together of dissimilar things too is called saṁyoga, but in grammar saṁyoga is recognized only when similar consonants (hal and hal) come together.हल्त्वेन सजातीय ही ग्राह्य है।What is to be grasped is only what is similar by way of being a consonant (hal).हलः यह बहुवचन सामान्यतया गृहीत है अर्थात् द्विवचन को सामान्यतया बहुवचन से ही ग्रहण किया गया है जिससे दो और दो से अधिक वर्णों के बीच में कोई भी अच् न हो तो उन सभी हलों के समुदाय अर्थात् समूह की संयोगसंज्ञा होती है।The word halaḥ is generally taken as a plural, that is, the dual is generally included within the plural, so that when there is no vowel (ac) whatever between two or more than two letters, the collection — that is, the group — of all those consonants (hal) receives the name saṁyoga.जैसे देवदत्त, शर्मा, सिद्ध, पत्नी आदि।For example devadatta, śarmā, siddha, patnī, and the like.यहाँ पर दत्त में दो तकार हैं और दोनों के बीच में कोई भी अच् अर्थात् स्वर वर्ण नहीं है।Here in datta there are two ta-kāras, and between the two there is no vowel (ac), that is, no vowel letter, at all.इसीलिये त्-त् इस हल् समुदाय की संयोगसंज्ञा हो जाती है।Therefore this collection of consonants (hal), t and t, comes to take the name saṁyoga.इसी प्रकार पत्नी में त् और न् के बीच में कोई भी अच् नहीं है, अतः त्-न् इस हल्समुदाय की संयोगसंज्ञा हो जाती है।In the same way, in patnī there is no vowel (ac) between t and n, and therefore this collection of consonants (hal), t and n, comes to take the name saṁyoga.
