How blessed is this jewel! Kṛṣṇa is speaking. The scene: a bower so thick with darkness it is one solid mass of black.
An udāharaṇa of paṭṭākṛṣṭi, 'the drawing away of the [breast-]cloth' — a helper-motif of śṛṅgāra in this prakaraṇa. Quoted from Rūpa's own play, Lalita-mādhava 6.31, and spoken by Kṛṣṇa.

Jīva records a variant reading of the closing line: instead of 'niṣṭhīvan … rādhām,' some texts read 'kīrṇīkurvan kiraṇa-laharīṁ hrepayāmāsa vas tām' — 'scattering the wave of rays, it shamed her, that Rādhā of yours.' The difference is niṣṭhīvan ('spewing') vs. kīrṇīkurvan ('scattering'), and rādhām vs. vas tām. He leaves both standing.

Viśvanātha sets the scene. Kṛṣṇa has brought the jewel back from Jāmbavān, and Madhumaṅgala has just identified it. Recognizing it — 'How blessed! This is the very jewel of Śaṅkhacūḍa' — Kṛṣṇa, praising it, relates what it once did.
Viśvanātha names the gem the Śaṅkhacūḍa-maṇi — the jewel from the demon Śaṅkhacūḍa. This is his own identification and stands on its own.
