The verse opens by describing a mountain. It is ringed by its peak and dark-shining, its glow coming from sharp, exposed rocks. Every describing word here has a second face — the commentators will show the same words secretly fit Kṛṣṇa himself.
An udāharaṇa of vartma-rodhana, 'blocking the way' — the lakṣaṇa named in the mūla's own lead-in (atha vartma-rodhanam) — quoted from Vidagdha-mādhava 6.19. Kṛṣṇa bars Rādhā's road as she sets out (on the pretext of Sun-worship) for the Yamunā bank.

Viśvanātha sets the scene. Rādhā is saying, 'Let go — I have to get to the Sun-worship.' And Kṛṣṇa, who is the very one blocking her way, answers her with this verse, 'parītam.' The joke is built into the setup: told to clear the road, he blocks it and describes the obstacle.
