kṛtāgasā hariṇā — by Hari the offender; adya — now; nyastaṁ — [that had been] offered; dāma — the garland; rādhayā — by Rādhā; puraḥ — before [him]; dṛṣṭvā — having seen [it].
Here is the scene. Kṛṣṇa, the very one who had wronged Rādhā and set off her sulk, had held a garland out to her. She has flung it back, and now he catches sight of it lying right in front of him.
The opening line of an udāharaṇa — the 'yathā vā', a second illustration of buddhi-pūrva rasāntaram, 'the māna deliberately broken by the quick-witted lover', defined at 15.134. Viśvanātha explains why a second example is needed: when māna springs up again and again, each breaking of it yields a fresh, DIFFERENT rasa-turn — not the same type repeated — so this verse shows a different turn from the one before it. Viśvanātha names the speaker as Nāndīmukhī, addressing Paurṇamāsī.

saḥ — he; kṣiptena tena — by that hurled [garland]; abhihataḥ — struck; kapaṭī — the trickster; duḥkhī iva — as if pained; bhugnānanaḥ — his face contorted.
The garland she threw catches him. And the sham-artist plays it up: he acts as if it has really hurt him, screwing up his face in mock agony. He is not hurt at all — it is all put on.
bhugna, 'bent, crumpled', of the face — he crumples his expression as though in pain. duḥkhī iva ('as if pained') is the pivot word: the whole trick hangs on 'iva'. Viśvanātha spells it out below.

Eyes squeezing shut, wincing, he sinks right down onto the ground. And that instant it works: Rādhā, all in a flurry of alarm for him, forgets her sulk and rushes over.
His dropping all the way to the ground (bhuvi) overplays the 'injury' on purpose — the more helpless he looks, the faster her māna collapses into concern. vyagrā, 'flustered', marks the exact moment her anger flips to worry.

She catches hold of his neck with both hands to raise him up. And now his face goes still — the game is won — and he drinks the bimba-red lip of hers, kissing her. The whole 'injury' was a device: it broke her māna and won him the kiss.
The composed face (sthita-mukha) is the tell: the instant she is in his arms the pain vanishes, exposing the whole collapse as theatre. bimba — the red gourd-fruit whose colour a beautiful lower lip is likened to. papau, 'he drank', is the standard poetic verb for a kiss.

niviṣṭaḥmeans: he settled down, satबैठ गया
niṣedivān — niṣedivān; niviṣṭaḥ — [means] settled down.
Jīva Gosvāmī glosses one archaic word: 'niṣedivān' simply means niviṣṭaḥ, 'he sat down, settled'.
niṣedivān is the old perfect active participle of ni-√sad; Jīva swaps in the everyday past participle niviṣṭaḥ (ni-√viś) so the form is not mistaken for anything stranger — 'he just sat down'.

Viśvanātha explains why a second illustration follows. One might suppose that a further rasa, like the king's expedients — conciliation, gift-giving and so on applied over again — would come out the same type each time it is repeated. To show that this is NOT so — that when māna keeps recurring, each breaking of it throws up a fresh, different rasa-turn — Rūpa gives this second verse, 'yathā vā'.
sāma-dāna(-daṇḍa-bheda) — the four statecraft expedients (conciliation, gift, force, division); Viśvanātha borrows them only as a foil. His point: the repeat is not monotonous. Every fresh recurrence of māna, deliberately broken, generates its own distinct rasāntara — which is why the text keeps supplying new examples.

The roles are reversed from the earlier example at 15.36, where Paurṇamāsī spoke to Nāndīmukhī; here Nāndī is the speaker and Paurṇamāsī the listener. The girl described is Rādhā.

Viśvanātha unpacks the verse's 'duḥkhī iva': Hari, struck by that garland, behaves as though its blow had thrown him into terrible agony. The 'iva', 'as if', is kept — the agony is only acted, never real.
He amplifies the mūla's plain 'duḥkhī' ('pained') to 'mahā-vyatha' ('GREAT agony') to bring out how far the trickster overplays it — but the governing 'iva' keeps it all pretence.
