pratyutpanna-dhiyāusing his quick, on-the-spot wit instrumental of means — 'by ready wit'तत्काल उपजी बुद्धि से, हाज़िर सूझ के द्वारा
kṛtamis what is done, the act he performsकिया गया
buddhi-pūrvaṁ — the deliberate kind; tu — but (as against the spontaneous); kāntena — by the lover; pratyutpanna-dhiyā — with ready wit; kṛtam — is what is done.
Now the deliberate kind. This is what the lover does on purpose, thinking on his feet. The 'but' sets it against the previous kind, which happened without design; here he plans the move with quick wit.
The lakṣaṇa of buddhi-pūrva, set up by the lead-in atha buddhi-pūrvam ('now, the deliberate kind'). The illustration follows in verse 135.

'On my hand — a five-mouthed vile worm has bitten me, out of rage!' So Kṛṣṇa cries out. He has not really been bitten; this is the staged alarm.
The udāharaṇa (illustration) of the deliberate kind (buddhi-pūrva) defined in 15.134: Kṛṣṇa feigns a venomous bite to break Rādhā's sulk. pañca-mukha, 'five-mouthed', names a dreadful many-fanged creature and plays up the (pretended) danger.

Under cover of this 'bite,' the lord of Vraja twists up his face, screws his eyes shut, and stands there as if in pain. Every gesture is part of the act.

Jīva records a variant. Where our verse has vraja-patau ('the lord of Vraja'), some copies read vraja-vidhau instead. He notes both and leaves the choice standing, without deciding between them.
A pāṭha-bheda (textual variant), not an interpretive gloss — Jīva reports the second reading and does not resolve which is correct.

Viśvanātha unpacks the verse's word pratyutpanna-dhī, 'ready wit': it means the lover acts with sa-pratibha-buddhi — a mind lit up with pratibhā, the instant flash of inventive genius. The whole trick is improvised on the spot.
pratibhā is a term of poetics (alaṅkāra-śāstra): the poet's spontaneous creative flash. Here it is transferred to Kṛṣṇa's improvised cleverness in staging the ruse.

Viśvanātha stages the verse as Vṛndā reporting to Paurṇamāsī. Before the sulking Rādhā, Kṛṣṇa stands silent a moment; then, acting out the pain of terror, his voice breaking, he suddenly cries, 'On my hand—!' The word abhinīta ('acted out') is the hinge: the fright is staged, not real — exactly the buddhi-pūrva point.
The '(121)' that opens this segment is the edition's reference numeral, not part of the syntax. Vṛndā (the grove-attendant) and Paurṇamāsī (the elder who directs the līlā) are the named framing speakers in Viśvanātha's narration.

kūṇite locane — 'the kūṇita eye' = saṅkucite, narrowed; yathā syāt tathā — meant adverbially; vaktraṁ vyābhujya — 'twisting the face' = kuṭalī-kṛtya, contorting it; sadyaḥ = tat-kṣaṇāt eva, that instant; projjhitā = tyaktā, cast off; roṣa-vṛttiḥ yayā sā — she whose anger-mood is thrown off.

Viśvanātha decodes the hard words. kūṇita-locana = eyes squeezed narrow, and it is adverbial: 'so that his eyes went narrow.' vyābhujya the face = twisting it crooked. sadyaḥ = that very second. projjhita = cast off. And projjhita-roṣa-vṛtti is a bahuvrīhi describing Rādhā: 'she whose fit of anger was instantly thrown off.'

Viśvanātha fills in the climax. Kṛṣṇa now feigns a dead faint. Rādhā, crying 'What happened?', lifts him in both arms and brings her face to his — and in that very moment of her chatter he kisses her, so that her mouth breaks into a smile. Notice how the swoon completes the scheme: it pulls her right up against him.
The staged swoon (mūrcchita) is a second layer of the ruse — like the feigned bite, it is deliberate, and it is what brings her close enough to be kissed.
