This quoted block gives Viṣṇudāsa's reading. Its backstory: once Padmā, seeing how favored Lalitā was after gaining Kṛṣṇa's company, fell into a deep māna. Kṛṣṇa decided nothing else would move her and broke it by silence alone. Later, asked by Subala, he tells the tale — the verse. Viṣṇudāsa then glosses it word by word, and, on vācaṁyama, strings out synonyms to confirm the play: by his vow of silence Kṛṣṇa becomes a 'silent sage'. Padmā, shedding tears before her girlfriends, uses avahitthā — concealment — to pin them on some other cause; and because the bower is thick with flowers, the pollen-excuse holds up. He closes by adducing Amaru: a heroine there, after driving off her lover, turns her tear-veiled gaze to her friends — the same masking gesture.
Why cited: The Amaru verse is adduced as a poetic parallel for Padmā's avahitthā — a heroine hiding her weeping and turning her tear-veiled gaze toward her girlfriends after the lover is driven off, matching Padmā's masked tears before her sakhīs.
