To call your beloved by the name of a rival co-wife is what sets off a surge of jealousy. That mis-naming is the offense being defined here.

āsāṁ tu — and for these heroines; gotra-skhalanaṁ — the naming-slip; maraṇād api duḥkhadaṁ — is more painful even than death.
And for these heroines, such a naming-slip hurts worse than dying. The wrong name on his lips wounds deeper than death.
gotra-skhalana literally 'a slip of the gotra': gotra normally means lineage/family, but here it is used in the extended sense of 'name' — so the term is 'a slip of the [wrong] name'. Jīva and Viśvanātha fix this sense in the commentary below.

Coming from the house of Rādhā's enchanter, he walked up to Candrāvalī and said —

The udāharaṇa (verse 93, in Bilvamaṅgala's voice) illustrating gotra-skhalana, 'the naming-slip', defined just above in 15.92. It stages a tit-for-tat exchange: Kṛṣṇa slips and calls Candrāvalī by Rādhā's name; she pays him back.

'Rādhā — is all well here?' The wrong name has slipped out. Hearing it, Candrāvalī answers back.
The whole point turns on 'rādhe': addressing Candrāvalī as 'Rādhā' is exactly the mis-naming the definition targets.

'And is all well with you, Kaṁsa?' She names him after his deadly enemy. Kṛṣṇa, caught off guard: 'Hey — you bewildered thing — where did you ever see any Kaṁsa?'
Two speakers share this line. 'kaṁsa kṣemam' is Candrāvalī paying back his slip with a sharper one — Kaṁsa is Kṛṣṇa's would-be killer. 'aye…' is Kṛṣṇa protesting, not yet seeing his own error.

Her retort exposes his slip: he had no more seen 'Rādhā' here than she had seen 'Kaṁsa'. The verse ends, as illustrative verses often do, on a benediction — pātu vaḥ.

Jīva notes that calling her 'Rādhe' is meant to bring to mind the full name 'Śrī-Rādhā' — the name is being hinted at, not merely dropped in.
Jīva reads the vocative 'rādhe' as deliberately evoking Śrī-Rādhā — which is precisely why the mis-naming stings: it is her supreme rival's name that has slipped out.

viśvanāthaḥ — Viśvanātha: gotrasya nāmnaḥ skhalanam — gotra here = 'name', so the slip is of a name; gotraṁ kule dhane nāmni — 'gotra' means family, wealth, name; gotraṁ tu dharaṇī-dhare — but also a mountain; iti ajayaḥ — so says Ajaya.
Viśvanātha pins down the word: in gotra-skhalana, gotra means 'name'. He backs this with Ajaya's lexicon, which lists gotra as 'family', 'wealth', and 'name' — and, in a further sense, 'mountain'. Of these, the one that fits here is 'name': the offense is a slip of the wrong name.
Why cited: cited to fix the sense of gotra in gotra-skhalana as 'name' (not lineage) — a slip of the wrong name — on the lexical authority of Ajaya's kośa, which records gotra = family, wealth, name, and mountain.
Ajaya-kośa is a Sanskrit lexicon (nighaṇṭu). Viśvanātha adduces it only to select the 'name' sense of gotra; the 'family / wealth / mountain' senses are quoted to show the word's range, not applied here.
