yatra — in which state; iṣṭāniṣṭā-parijñānam — there is no telling apart the wanted from the unwanted; praśneṣu — when questions are put; anuttaram — no answer comes.
This begins the definition of jaḍimā (torpor). It is the state in which a girl no longer tells apart what she wants from what she does not, and when she is asked something, no answer comes from her.

And she neither sees nor hears what is before her. That whole condition is what goes by the name jaḍimā.
jaḍimā = jaḍatā, 'torpor, numb stupor' — one of the anubhāvas: the outward sign of a heart so seized by love that the senses stall.

And in this torpor, even when the moment does not call for it, out break the huṅkāra (a grunted 'hum'), stambha (going stock-still), śvāsa (heaving breath), bhrama (reeling), and others of the kind. The word 'akāṇḍe' here will be picked up by the example verse that follows.

Now the example verse, in the friend's voice, speaking straight to Pālī: 'You no longer talk with the household elders, and you sigh again and again, working your breath like a bellows.' These are the very signs — silence, heaving breath — just defined as jaḍatā.

An udāharaṇa of jaḍatā (jaḍimā, 'torpor'), the state defined just above at 15.34. Spoken by Pālī's friend (so Viśvanātha), who reads Pālī's stupor — her silence, her sighing, her grunted 'hum' — back to its one cause. Pādas a and c of this verse stand in the lead-in ('akāṇḍe huṅkāraṁ racayasi… tataḥ śaṅke paṅkeruha-mukhi yayau vaiṇava-kalā-'); L4 and L5 are pādas b and d.

'This, O Pāli, is why: the honey-sweetness of Kṛṣṇa's flute-music has taken up guest-lodging in the two wine-cups of your ears.' The ears are cups, the flute-melody the sweet drink poured in; once it has settled there as a welcome guest, this torpor is the result. So the friend traces the whole stupor to the flute-song.

Jīva glosses the first word: 'akāṇḍe' means 'at the wrong moment,' when there is no proper occasion for such a sign.

For Jīva the grunted 'hum' is an angry sound. Why angry? Because in her mind she is going over some particular piece of Kṛṣṇa's insolence — the memory sours, and the 'hum' escapes as anger.
