L1definition
tānavaṁ kṛśatā gātre daurbalya-bhramaṇādi-kṛt ||
tānavaṁtānava, 'emaciation' — the anubhāva now being defined nominative, the term set up for definitionजिसे 'तानव' कहते हैं (यही लक्षण के लिए उठाया गया पद)
gātrein the body, over the limbs locative — where it shows itselfशरीर में (जहाँ यह प्रकट होता है)
daurbalya-bhramaṇādi-kṛtand it brings on weakness, reeling, and the like -kṛt = 'producing'; ādi = 'and so on', leaving the list openदुर्बलता, चक्कर आना आदि को उत्पन्न करने वाला ('आदि' से सूची खुली रहती है)
tānavaṁ — the sign 'emaciation'; kṛśatā gātre — is a wasting-thinness in the body; daurbalya-bhramaṇādi-kṛt — one that produces weakness, dizziness, and the rest.
Tānava, 'emaciation,' is a wasting-thinness that comes over the body. It brings on weakness, reeling, and so on. This line is the definition; the verse that follows will illustrate it.

vyayāya nihitormikāvalir api skhalaty añjasā |
vyayāyain order to spend away, to be rid of [that defect] dative of purpose; its object 'prabala-riktatā-dūṣaṇa-' stands in the lead-in — the strong blemish of the bare, empty wrist(खाली कलाई के प्रबल दोष को) दूर करने के लिए
nihita-ūrmikāvalir apieven the row of finger-rings, though fixed on [to fill the gap] api = 'even' — one would expect rings at least to holdपहनी हुई अँगूठियों की पंक्ति भी (कम-से-कम ये तो टिकतीं, ऐसी आशा थी)
añjasāeasily, in a momentसहज ही, तुरन्त
vyayāya — to be rid of [the bare-wrist defect named in the lead-in]; nihita-ūrmikāvalir api — even the row of rings put on [in the bangles' place]; añjasā skhalati — slips off in a moment.
Her bangles had already slipped from her thinned wrists, baring them. To cover that bareness, rings were slid on in the bangles' place. But even the rings drop off in a moment — that is how thin she has grown.
An udāharaṇa of tānava, the sign defined in the previous line (15.30). The speaker is Viśākhā's girlfriend. The line completes a compound begun in the lead-in: 'when the collection of bangles has slipped off (cyute valaya-sañcaye), to spend away the strong defect of emptiness (prabala-riktatā-dūṣaṇa-vyayāya)...'

Your body has wasted to a thread — thin as the last sliver of moon on the fourteenth of the dark fortnight, the night before the moon goes wholly dark. One hearing of the flute did this. The moon-image is deliberate: Viśvanātha will draw the new-moon threat out of it.

na tu patiṁ-manyānāṁbut not of them as the wedded wives of [other] husbands tu — 'but'; patiṁ-manya = one who [outwardly] owns a husbandपरन्तु उन स्त्रियों का नहीं, जो (बाहर से) अपने को पतिवाली मानती हैं
yathā-kramaṁ rati-dveṣayor viṣayātsince, in that order, [Kṛṣṇa and the husband] are the object of their love and the object of their aversion yathā-kramaṁ pairs rati→Kṛṣṇa, dveṣa→the legal husband; viṣayāt, ablative of groundक्योंकि क्रमशः रति और द्वेष के विषय (भिन्न) हैं — रति का विषय कृष्ण, द्वेष का विषय लौकिक पति
prabala-riktatā-dūṣaṇa-vyāya iti — on the words 'to spend away the strong bare-wrist defect': tad-vidhānāṁ — of the gopīs; svābhāvika-rati-balāt — by the force of their inborn love; antaḥ-pati-bhāvanayā — holding Kṛṣṇa as their inner husband; tāsāṁ tan-maṅgalaika-maṅgala-māninīnāṁ — of these women who make his welfare their sole welfare; tat-tānavaṁ yujyate — that emaciation is fitting; śrī-kṛṣṇa eva [viṣayaḥ] — for Kṛṣṇa alone; na tu patiṁ-manyānāṁ — but not for them as others' wedded wives; yathā-kramaṁ rati-dveṣayor viṣayāt — since Kṛṣṇa and the husband are, respectively, the objects of love and of aversion.
Jīva pins down whose wasting this properly is. These gopīs love Kṛṣṇa by nature; deep down they hold him, and him alone, as their real husband, and count his welfare their only welfare. For such women, wasting away like this is fitting — but fitting on Kṛṣṇa's account alone, not on account of the husbands they are outwardly married to. His reason: Kṛṣṇa is the object of their love, the legal husband the object of their aversion — the two stand at opposite poles. So the emaciation belongs to the loved one and never to the disliked one.
antaḥ-pati, 'the inner husband' — the parakīyā stance: the gopīs are outwardly others' wedded wives (patiṁ-manya) yet inwardly own Kṛṣṇa alone as husband.

The verse's second half — 'having heard the flute just once...' — pushes the emaciation to its very limit. And Viśvanātha hears a hidden message folded into it. Through these words the friend is really saying: 'Don't be afraid of the elders. Go to Kṛṣṇa — quickly, and I will take you to him myself. For your body is now the sliver of the fourteenth-night moon; when the new moon comes it goes out altogether — and then I too shall die.' The moon-image is the pivot: as the waning moon vanishes at amāvasyā, so Viśākhā, and her friend with her, will be gone unless she goes to Kṛṣṇa now.
