gīta-ādeḥ caand from song and the like ca 'and'; ādi 'and so forth' leaves the list of sources openऔर गीत आदि से — 'च' 'और'; 'आदि' से स्रोतों की सूची खुली रह जाती है

Hearing about the beloved can come about in more than one way: from the mouth of a court-bard, a female messenger, or a girlfriend, and from song and whatever else. This line is the definition of śravaṇa, 'hearing', taken up under the lead-in 'atha śravaṇam'.
śravaṇa, 'hearing', is here treated as one of the causes (vibhāva) by which love (rati) is roused — the section opens 'atha śravaṇam'. The lakṣaṇa (definition) is stated in this line; the udāharaṇa (example verse) follows in the next four lines.

The opening line of the udāharaṇa (example verse) illustrating śravaṇa, 'hearing' (this verse of 15.10-11). The whole verse is one girlfriend's question to the princess Lakṣaṇā (so Jīva, below), whose love for Kṛṣṇa is kindled purely by hearing his glories recited.

Jīva explains why mere hearing lit her love. The eulogy told how it was Kṛṣṇa who conquered the Magadha king — and that shows his heroism; and, as the saying goes, 'women are mostly drawn to heroes'. But there was more than valor: the same eulogy also painted his beauty, his name, and his qualities. Every one of these, heard aloud, became a cause of love springing up in Lakṣaṇā.
'prāyo vīra-ratāḥ striyaḥ' ('women are mostly drawn to heroes') is a stock maxim; the hedging 'mostly' (prāyaḥ) is what Jīva pauses over in s4.

mṛgākṣīṇāṁ rāgasya vāsanā-rūpeṇa nigūḍhatvāt — because the passion of lovely women lies hidden as a latent impression; nāsti prāya-vivakṣayā — the maxim's 'mostly' is not to be pressed into meaning any woman truly lacks it.
One might read the maxim's 'mostly' as admitting exceptions — some women simply not drawn to heroes at all. Jīva blocks that. In fawn-eyed women the passion is not absent; it merely lies hidden, folded away as a latent impression (vāsanā). So the word 'mostly' should not be pressed to mean that any woman genuinely lacks it — only that in many it stays out of sight.
vāsanā: a dormant impression left by past experience, present in the heart but not yet active — 'hidden', not 'absent'.

bhakta-rāgānujanmatvād bhagavad-rāgasya ||
bhakta-rāga-anujanmatvātbecause it is born in the wake of the devotee's own inborn passion ablative of reason -tvāt = 'because'; anujanman = 'arising after, following upon'क्योंकि वह भक्त-राग के अनन्तर उत्पन्न होता है — हेतु में पंचमी (-त्वात् 'क्योंकि'); अनुजन्मन् = पीछे-पीछे, बाद में उत्पन्न होना
bhagavad-rāgasya— [and this is said] of love directed toward the Lord genitive — 'of bhagavad-rāga', the very thing being groundedभगवान् के प्रति राग का — सम्बन्ध-षष्ठी; यही वह वस्तु है जिसका आधार बताया जा रहा है
bhagavad-rāgasya — as for love toward the Lord; bhakta-rāga-anujanmatvāt — [it is present in all, though latent] because it is born following upon the devotee's own passion.
Here is the ground that seals it. Love for the Lord (bhagavad-rāga) always arises in the train of the devotee's own inborn passion (bhakta-rāga). Because it rides on a disposition already lying latent in the heart, hearing Kṛṣṇa's glories does not manufacture love out of nothing — it wakes what was already there as vāsanā. That is why no woman truly lacks it.
