“Cool your eyes by looking at this divine youth” — so my friends urged me. And on that word, Kṛṣṇa, you were gazed upon by me.
An udāharaṇa of citra — the beloved seen in a picture. The unit’s lead-in sets it against the preceding sākṣāt example (seen face to face, Padyāvalī 159); here Rādhā gazes on a painted Kṛṣṇa. From Vidagdha-mādhava 2.23.

vilāsa-phalāṅkitaḥ can be split two ways: vilāsa-phala-aṅkitaḥ “marked with the fruit of love-play,” or vilāsa-phalaka-aṅkitaḥ “painted on the play-board.” Viśvanātha takes the second (phalaka = picture-cloth).

baḍavā-vahni (vaḍavānala), the fire in the depths of the sea: cool on the surface, unquenchable within — the image of a sight that seems to soothe but inwardly burns. Viśvanātha spells this out at s8.
