The udāharaṇa (illustration) of parijalpita defined just above; quoted from Bhāgavata 10.47.12, the gopīs' bhramara-gīta — words spoken to a bee taken as Kṛṣṇa's stand-in.

ṇic — the causative affix; 'pā' (drink) becomes 'pāyayati' (makes drink), and the causative here carries the sense of compulsion.

kiṁ ca tasya prīta-aprītatve eva ati-vicitre — moreover both his favor and disfavor are strange; sumanasaḥ deva-śreṇīḥ viṣṇuḥ iva ... pāyayitvā — like Viṣṇu with the gods, having made us drink; sumanasaḥ mālatīḥ bhramaraḥ iva ... tatyāja — like a bee with jasmines, he abandoned us; iti pāyana-tyāgayoḥ karmaṇi ca kartari ca pṛthak pṛthak dṛṣṭāntaḥ — for drink and abandonment, separate analogies on object and on agent.
Moreover, both his favor and his disfavor are strangely alike. Two similes ride on the double sense of 'sumanas': (1) in giving nectar, Kṛṣṇa is like Viṣṇu and we are the gods (sumanas = gods) he nourishes — the comparison falling on the recipients, the object of the act; (2) in abandoning, Kṛṣṇa is like a bee (bhavādṛk) and we are the jasmine flowers (sumanas = mālatī) it deserts — the comparison falling on the agent, the deserter. The single word 'sumanas' carries both readings.

The sense: so Lakṣmī is utterly guileless. But we — the Creator gave us cleverness, wit, quick and subtle minds — how could we ever be as simple as she? (This is the very 'display of one's own cleverness.')
