tathālikewise / and so tooतथा (वैसे ही)
paraspara-vaśībhāvaḥ — mutual subjugation; prema-vaicittyakaṁ tathā — and likewise love's bewilderment.
Rūpa begins listing the outward signs of anurāga. First, mutual subjugation: hero and heroine each come under the other's control. Then prema-vaicittya — the strange anxiety of separation felt even while the two are together.

Jīva: mutual subjugation is nothing new — it is already there in prema and the earlier stages. But here in anurāga you must understand it as something of a different character.

And what makes it distinctive, Jīva says, is just this: the mutual subjugation never grows stale — it renews itself as ever-fresh, new at every moment.

The heroine is different. Shyness and avahitthā — the hiding of one's real feelings — keep her from visibly surrendering. So even in scenes rich with rasa, it is still only his surrender that gets spoken of, not hers.

In anurāga everything changes. Craving runs so high that concealment, pride, and jealousy have no room to operate. Now the heroine's surrender shows plainly too. So it is only here, in the ujjvala-rasa, that mutual subjugation — both sides at once — becomes visible.

The other rasas work differently. In dāsya and the rest there is no shyness or concealment between servant and Lord to begin with, so no sañcāri-bhāva stands in the way. There, mutual subjugation is present from the very beginning of prema, not only at anurāga.
