L1definition
āruhya paramāṁ kāṣṭhāṁ premā cid-dīpa-dīpanaḥ |
āruhyahaving climbed up gerund — the act done first, before what followsचढ़कर (जो कार्य पहले होता है — पराकाष्ठा पर आरूढ़ होकर)
paramāṁ kāṣṭhāṁto the very highest summit (the object climbed to)परम काष्ठा को, अर्थात् सर्वोच्च सीमा (पराकाष्ठा) को
premāprema (love) — the subject of the whole verseप्रेम (जब पराकाष्ठा पर पहुँचता है, तब)
cid-dīpa-dīpanaḥbecomes the kindler of the lamp of consciousness (cit)चित्-रूपी दीप को प्रज्वलित करने वाला (हो जाता है)
premā — prema; āruhya — having climbed; paramāṁ kāṣṭhāṁ — to the highest summit; cid-dīpa-dīpanaḥ — [becomes] the kindler of the lamp of consciousness.
Prema climbs all the way to its highest point. There it becomes the kindler of the lamp of consciousness (cit) — it lights up the awareness of the beloved brighter than ever before.
cit here is being figured as a lamp (dīpa); the commentators will unpack cit as 'perception of the beloved', not consciousness in the abstract.

hṛdayaṁ drāvayann eṣa sneha ity abhidhīyate |
hṛdayaṁ drāvayannmelting the heart present participle, agreeing with prema — 'while it melts…'
eṣathis [prema, now at its summit]यह (उपर्युक्त प्रेम)
eṣa — this; hṛdayaṁ drāvayann — melting the heart; sneha ity abhidhīyate — is called 'sneha'.
And, melting the heart as it does, this is what gets named sneha. The name is chosen with care: sneha means both 'affection' and 'oil / grease', and oil is precisely what melts and flows when warmed.
śleṣa on sneha = affection / lamp-oil. The verse names this love 'sneha' because, like oil, it both fuels the lamp (L1) and melts and flows (L2). Jīva makes the pun explicit at s5.

darśanādiṣuin seeing [the beloved] and the rest loc.; -ādi = 'and so on' — hearing, remembering, etc.
atrodite — once this has arisen; darśanādiṣu — in seeing and the rest; jātu na tṛptiḥ bhavet — there never comes any satiation.
Once sneha has arisen, there is never any getting-one's-fill in seeing Kṛṣṇa and the rest. The eyes look and look and are never satisfied. This is the outward sign that sneha is present.
This third line is the taṭastha-lakṣaṇa (the marginal identifying mark) of sneha, distinct from L1–L2 which give its essence; Jīva flags this at s6.

āruhya paramāṁ kāṣṭhām iti kṣaya-rāhityaṁ darśitam |
āruhya paramāṁ kāṣṭhām itiby the words 'having climbed the highest limit''आरुह्य परमां काष्ठाम्' इस पद से
kṣaya-rāhityaṁ darśitamwhat is shown is freedom from any declineक्षय का अभाव (कि यह प्रेम कभी घटता नहीं) दिखाया गया है
āruhya paramāṁ kāṣṭhām iti — by 'having climbed the highest limit'; kṣaya-rāhityaṁ darśitam — is shown [its] freedom from decay.
When the verse says prema 'climbs to the highest limit,' Jīva reads that as showing one thing: it can no longer decline. Once you are at the very summit there is nowhere left to fall — so sneha never diminishes.

And from that same summit, Jīva adds, the verse quietly suggests a second thing: the full measure of prema's power to light up consciousness. Reaching the top means the cit-lamp too now burns at its very brightest. This is carried by suggestion, not spelled out.

cid apy atrathe word 'cit' too, here [in this verse] api = 'also' — cit as well gets a fixed sense hereयहाँ 'चित्' शब्द का भी (एक निश्चित अर्थ है)
prema-viṣayopalabdhiḥmeans the perception of prema's object [Kṛṣṇa, the beloved]प्रेम के विषय (प्रियतम) की उपलब्धि, अर्थात् प्रियतम का प्रत्यक्ष होना
atra — here; cid apy — the word cit as well; prema-viṣayopalabdhiḥ — [means] the apprehension of the object of love.
The word cit here, Jīva notes, is not consciousness in the abstract. It means the perception of prema's object — the direct awareness of Kṛṣṇa, the beloved.

He backs the gloss with the dictionary. The Amarakośa lists prekṣā, upalabdhi, cit, and saṁvit together — all of them words for seeing, perceiving, awareness. So cit legitimately carries the sense 'perceiving'.
Why cited: cited from the Amarakośa lexicon to prove that cit means perception/awareness, licensing the reading cit = perceiving the beloved.

hṛdayaṁ drāvayann itinamely, by the words 'melting the heart''हृदयं द्रावयन्' इस पद से
tad evaṁ — thus; sneha-rūpakeṇa darśayitvā — having shown it by the sneha(oil)-metaphor; sneha-sājātyena — by its likeness to sneha(oil); hṛdayaṁ drāvayann iti darśayati — he shows it with 'melting the heart'.
Here is the pun the whole verse turns on, and Jīva names both halves of it. Sneha means both 'love' and 'oil / grease'. First (L1) the verse figured prema as a lamp — and a lamp runs on sneha, oil: that was the sneha-metaphor. Now (L2) he shows the same love a second way, through what oil naturally does: heated oil melts and flows. So the heart 'melts' (drāvayan) exactly the way oil melts. That kinship (sājātya) with oil is why this love is named sneha.
śleṣa on sneha = affection / lamp-oil. rūpaka = the outright lamp-metaphor (prema figured as the oil-fed lamp); sājātya = the pointed likeness (oil melts and flows → the heart melts). Both lean on the single word sneha meaning oil.

Now Jīva flags a shift in what the verse is doing. The last line — 'once sneha has arisen, no satiation in seeing' — is not sneha's essence. It is its taṭastha-lakṣaṇa, a marginal mark that lets you identify sneha from the outside.
taṭastha-lakṣaṇa vs svarūpa-lakṣaṇa. A svarūpa-lakṣaṇa names what the thing essentially IS — the blueness of a blue lotus, part of the lotus itself. A taṭastha-lakṣaṇa names an incidental sign that lets you pick the thing out — 'the house with the crow perched on it', where the crow is no part of the house. Here: sneha's essence is the illumining-and-melting of L1–L2; 'never sated in seeing Kṛṣṇa' (L3) is only the outward crow-on-the-roof by which you recognize sneha has arrived.

Here is how sneha differs from plain prema, drawn out through the lamp. Even in prema the perception of Kṛṣṇa was already there — that is not new. But in sneha that perception becomes excessive, over-full. Now take the lamp: pour in abundant ghee, and the flame's heat and light swell; that swollen heat melts a lump of wax until it flows completely away. Just so, the over-intense perception of Kṛṣṇa melts the devotee's heart utterly. The mapping is exact: the abundant ghee is the excess of perception; the lamp's swollen heat-and-light is prema at full blaze; the wax is the heart; the wax dissolving completely is the heart's total melting (atidrutatva). That utter melting is what turns prema into sneha.
madana here = wax (beeswax), named for what heat does to it — not Kāmadeva, its more usual sense. The tu also carries the whole distinction: perception belongs to prema and sneha alike; only its excess, and the melting that follows, marks off sneha.
