vāor — the first of the verse's four either/or pairsअथवा — दोनों में से जो भी हो
asundaraḥ — [be he] plain; sundara-śekharaḥ vā — or the crest-jewel of the beautiful.
The verse is a vow, and it moves by pairs. Line one, the first pair: he may be plain, with no beauty to him at all — or he may be the crest-jewel of everything lovely. Either way, she is about to say, it changes nothing.
An udāharaṇa (illustrative verse) of svabhāva-rati — abiding love that leans on no outside cause (bahir-hetv-anapekṣī, defined at 14.31, where such love is split into nisarga and svarūpa). Where 14.33 showed such love in a city-woman whom a slight hearing of Kṛṣṇa's qualities had awakened (nisarga, 14.32), this verse shows it in a woman of Vraja. The commentators frame exactly what it illustrates differently and are not harmonized here: Viśvanātha (s1) reads it as nisarga carried over from the city-beauty to the vraja-beauty, and alternatively (s2) as a lesson that hearing of qualities and beauty is unnecessary; Jīva (s1) calls her love naisargikī, 'inborn,' and marks off its own distinction (s2-s4). The verse's engine is the four opposed pairs — beautiful or plain, virtuous or worthless, hostile or kind — with her love holding through every case.

Line two, the second pair: he may be empty of every good quality — or the finest of all who possess any. Beauty in line one, character here; she waves both aside before they can weigh on her.

dveṣī mayione who hates me, hostile toward me mayi locative — the target of the hostility, 'against me'मुझसे द्वेष करने वाला हो

karuṇā-ambudhiḥor an ocean of compassionअथवा करुणा का समुद्र हो
vāor — the third and sharpest pairअथवा — इनमें से जो भी हो
mayi dveṣī syāt — be he hostile to me; karuṇā-ambudhiḥ vā — or an ocean of compassion.
The third and hardest pair: he may even hate me — or he may be a very ocean of compassion toward me. She grants the worst case, that Kṛṣṇa is hostile, and sets it right beside the best. This is the line the whole vow is built to survive.

Then the resolution. That Śyāma — the dark-hued one — he alone, this very one, is now my one refuge. Whatever he turns out to be — beautiful or plain, worthy or worthless, cruel or kind — He and no other is where I have come to rest. That is svabhāva-rati: love with no 'because' standing behind it.
The full vow read straight: 'Be he plain or beauty's crest-jewel, bereft of virtue or the best of the virtuous, hostile to me or an ocean of mercy — that Śyāma, he alone, is now my one refuge.' The three suspended options (L1-L3) all hang on syāt in L3; L4 discharges them into a single unconditional resolve.

Jīva sets up the verse. The love of the previous woman, the eternal beloved, stood established by her very nature — being Kṛṣṇa's eternal beloved, she needs no outside cause to love him. Now the author turns to a different woman and illustrates an inborn love in her, and by it shows one thing: that hearing about Kṛṣṇa's qualities or beauty is not needed for love at all. The verse 'asundara…' makes the point.

Jīva looks back to 14.20. The abhimāna shown there — the firm conviction 'Kṛṣṇa is mine' — is, he says, only a resolve produced by a guru's teaching and the like. It can be present even when love itself is not: it is mere conviction, not yet love.

But here it runs the other way. Her love is not born from the conviction; it stands established as fused with the conviction from the start — the two inseparable — reaching back through beginningless time, or through many lifetimes. That is Jīva's distinction: in 14.20 conviction comes first and love follows; here love and conviction have co-existed, inborn, always.
'samaveta' borrows the Nyāya term samavāya — inseparable inherence, the relation by which a quality cannot be peeled off its substance. As colour inheres in a cloth (never floating free of it), here Jīva says love inheres in the conviction: the two were never apart, so love is not a later product of the conviction but its lifelong twin.
