L1definition
śabda-sparśādayaḥ pañca viṣayāḥ kila viśrutāḥ ||
śabda-sparśādayaḥthe series beginning with sound and touch — i.e. the five sense-objects ādi = "and the rest": the two named imply the remaining three (rūpa, rasa, gandha)शब्द, स्पर्श आदि (अर्थात् इन दोनों से शेष तीन — रूप, रस और गन्ध — भी समझ लिए जाएँ)
pañcafive in numberपाँच
viṣayāḥare the sense-objectsविषय (इन्द्रियों के विषय)
kilaas everyone agrees / so it is well established kila flags common, reported fameजैसा कि प्रसिद्ध है
viśrutāḥand are famously taught in this wayविश्रुत — भलीभाँति सुने-जाने गए हैं
śabda-sparśādayaḥ — sound, touch, and the rest; pañca viṣayāḥ — are the five sense-objects; kila viśrutāḥ — famously known, as everyone agrees.
śabda-sparśādayaḥ — शब्द, स्पर्श आदि; pañca — पाँच; viṣayāḥ — विषय; kila — जैसा प्रसिद्ध है; viśrutāḥ — विश्रुत हैं।
Sound, touch, and the rest — five in all — are the well-known sense-objects (viṣayas). The five are: śabda (sound), sparśa (touch), rūpa (form), rasa (taste), and gandha (smell). This line simply names them; the verse that follows will show one of them at work.
शब्द, स्पर्श, रूप, रस और गन्ध — ये पाँच विषय प्रसिद्ध रूप से जाने जाते हैं।
The lakṣaṇa (definition) line of the pair: it lists the five viṣayas as a set. In the sthāyi-bhāva chapter these sense-objects serve as uddīpana — the stimuli through which rati is kindled — and the next verse illustrates the first of them, śabda.

The udāharaṇa (illustrative verse, 14.10) of the viṣaya just defined in 14.9 — specifically śabda, sound as sense-object. It is spoken by Śrī Rādhā to her friend: overwhelmed by Kṛṣṇa's flute, she describes what the sound has done to her.
यह उसी विषय — शब्द, अर्थात् इन्द्रिय-विषय के रूप में ध्वनि — का उदाहरण-श्लोक (14.10) है, जिसका लक्षण 14.9 में दिया गया। इसे श्री राधा अपनी सखी से कहती हैं: कृष्ण की वेणु से विह्वल होकर वे बताती हैं कि उस नाद ने उनकी क्या दशा कर दी है।

prakaraṇāl labhyateand this is gathered from the running topic ablative of source — the context, not the word itself, fixes the senseप्रकरण से यह अर्थ प्राप्त होता है (शब्द से नहीं, सन्दर्भ से)
nādaḥ atra — "nāda" here; veṇu-nādaḥ — means the flute's sound; prakaraṇāt labhyate — and that is settled from the context.
nādo’tra — यहाँ नाद; veṇu-nādaḥ — वेणु का नाद; prakaraṇāl labhyate — प्रकरण से प्राप्त होता है।
Here "nāda" means the sound of the flute. Jīva points out that the bare word only means "a sound" — it is the running topic (prakaraṇa) that pins it down to the flute.
यहाँ 'नाद' का अर्थ वेणु का नाद है; यह अर्थ शब्द से नहीं, प्रकरण से प्राप्त होता है।

kathaṁ vivaśāsi ? iti lalitayā pṛṣṭā śrī-rādhā prāha—nādo veṇu-dhvaniḥ |
kathaṁ vivaśāsi ?"How is it you are so beside yourself?" — the question put to her vivaśā = overwhelmed, no longer in control of herself"तुम इतनी विवश — अपने वश में न रहकर विह्वल — क्यों हो?"
iti lalitayā pṛṣṭābeing asked this by Lalitā instrumental of agent + past participle — Lalitā is the questioner, Rādhā the questionedइस प्रकार ललिता के द्वारा पूछी गई (ललिता पूछने वाली, राधा पूछी गई)
śrī-rādhā prāhaŚrī Rādhā answersश्री राधा कहती हैं
nādo veṇu-dhvaniḥand "nāda" here is the sound of the flute'नाद' अर्थात् वेणु की ध्वनि
kathaṁ vivaśāsi iti lalitayā pṛṣṭā — asked by Lalitā, "why are you so overwhelmed?"; śrī-rādhā prāha — Śrī Rādhā replies; nādaḥ veṇu-dhvaniḥ — "nāda" is the flute's note.
kathaṁ vivaśāsi ? — तुम इतनी विवश क्यों हो?; iti lalitayā pṛṣṭā — इस प्रकार ललिता के द्वारा पूछी गई; śrī-rādhā prāha — श्री राधा कहती हैं; nādo veṇu-dhvaniḥ — नाद अर्थात् वेणु की ध्वनि।
Viśvanātha sets the scene: Lalitā asks her, "How is it you are so beside yourself?" — and the whole verse is Rādhā's reply. Like Jīva, he glosses "nāda" as the sound of the flute.
"तुम इतनी विवश क्यों हो?" — इस प्रकार ललिता के पूछने पर श्री राधा कहती हैं। यहाँ 'नाद' का अर्थ है वेणु की ध्वनि।

sva-pātivratya-dhvaṁsothe collapse of her own fidelity as a wifeअपने पातिव्रत्य का ध्वंस
vyañjitaḥis suggested — hinted, not said outright vyañjanā: the meaning is carried by suggestion (dhvani), never statedव्यंजित किया गया है — व्यंजना से सूचित, कहीं कहा नहीं गया
kulīnety-ādinā — by the "kulīna..." phrase; sva-pātivratya-dhvaṁsaḥ vyañjitaḥ — the breaking of her own wifely fidelity is suggested.
kulīnety-ādinā — 'कुलीन' इत्यादि पद के द्वारा; sva-pātivratya-dhvaṁso — अपने पातिव्रत्य का ध्वंस; vyañjitaḥ — व्यंजित किया गया है।
With the phrase "kulīna..." — the respectable wives who would condemn such a state — Rādhā hints that her own vow of fidelity to her husband has been shattered. Viśvanātha marks this as vyañjanā: she never says it plainly; the words only suggest it.
'कुलीन' इत्यादि पद के द्वारा अपने पातिव्रत्य का ध्वंस व्यंजना से सूचित किया गया है।
vyañjita — "suggested." In Sanskrit poetics vyañjanā is the third power of a word, beyond the direct and the figurative sense: it delivers a meaning the poet never states. Here the censure of the wives implies, without naming, that Rādhā's pativratā vow is broken.
व्यंजित अर्थात् 'ध्वनि से सूचित'। काव्यशास्त्र में व्यंजना शब्द की तीसरी शक्ति है, जो अभिधा और लक्षणा से परे है: वह ऐसा अर्थ पहुँचाती है जिसे कवि कहता नहीं। यहाँ गृहिणियों की निन्दा बिना नाम लिए यह सूचित कर देती है कि राधा का पातिव्रत-व्रत भंग हो चुका है।

kām api daśām iti vaiṇavika-puruṣa-viṣaya-raty-udbhavaḥ ||
kām api daśām itiby the words "some indescribable state" iti marks the pratīka being explained'किसी दशा को' — इस पद (प्रतीक) की व्याख्या की जा रही है
vaiṇavika-puruṣa-viṣaya-raty-udbhavaḥ[is shown] the rise of a love (rati) that takes the flute-playing man as its object long compound: vaiṇavika-puruṣa = the man with the veṇu = Kṛṣṇa; he is the viṣaya (object) of the ratiवेणुधारी पुरुष (अर्थात् कृष्ण) को विषय बनाकर उत्पन्न हुई रति का उदय
kām api daśām iti — by "some unnameable state"; vaiṇavika-puruṣa-viṣaya-rati-udbhavaḥ — is indicated the birth of a rati whose object is the flute-player [Kṛṣṇa].
kām api daśām iti — 'किसी दशा को' इस पद से; vaiṇavika-puruṣa-viṣaya-raty-udbhavaḥ — वेणुधारी पुरुष को विषय बनाकर उत्पन्न रति का उदय।
By "some state I cannot name," says Viśvanātha, the verse shows what has really happened: rati — love — has been born in her, and its object (viṣaya) is the man with the flute, Kṛṣṇa. Notice the resonance the chapter is built on: the flute-sound is a viṣaya, a sense-object; and through that sense-object Kṛṣṇa himself becomes the viṣaya, the object of her love. The sense-object opens the door to viṣaya-rati.
'किसी दशा को' इस पद से वेणुधारी पुरुष (कृष्ण) को विषय बनाकर उठी हुई रति का उदय सूचित होता है।
vaiṇavika-puruṣa — "the man of the veṇu (flute)," i.e. Kṛṣṇa. viṣaya-rati — technically, rati considered from the side of its object (viṣaya) rather than its holder (āśraya); here the object is Kṛṣṇa the flutist.
वैणविक-पुरुष अर्थात् 'वेणु (बाँसुरी) वाला पुरुष', यानी कृष्ण। विषय-रति का तात्पर्य है — रति को उसके आश्रय की ओर से नहीं, अपितु उसके विषय की ओर से देखना; यहाँ वह विषय वेणुवादक कृष्ण हैं।
