sthavayati nava-rāgaṁ mādhave rādhikāyāṁ
sthavayatiwhen he is thickening [it] — intensifying [his love] locative sg. of the present participle sthavayat (denominative 'make sthūla, thick'); heads a locative absolute with mādhaveजब वह (माधव) गाढ़ा कर रहा हो — 'mādhave' के साथ सति-सप्तमी का वर्तमान कृदन्त
nava-rāgaṁa fresh, new love / passion (the thing being thickened)नए अनुराग को
mādhavewhen Mādhava (Kṛṣṇa) — locative, subject of the absoluteमाधव (कृष्ण) में — सति-सप्तमी का कर्ता
rādhikāyāṁfor Rādhikā — the one that love is aimed at locative of the person loved (viṣaya)राधिका के प्रति — जिससे प्रेम है उस विषय की सप्तमी
mādhave — when Mādhava (Kṛṣṇa); rādhikāyāṁ — toward Rādhikā; nava-rāgaṁ — his fresh love; sthavayati — is making thick, intensifying [locative absolute: 'while he is…'].
sthavayati — जब वह गाढ़ा कर रहा हो; nava-rāgaṁ — नए अनुराग को; mādhave — माधव में; rādhikāyāṁ — राधिका के प्रति।
When Mādhava is thickening — intensifying — his brand-new love for Rādhikā. The verb sthavayati literally means 'makes it thick,' and it opens a 'while he is doing this…' clause that sets the scene.
जब माधव राधिका के प्रति अपने नए अनुराग को गाढ़ा कर रहे हों।
An udāharaṇa illustrating viṣāda (despondency) and harṣa (joy) arising from different causes (bhinna-hetuja) — the pairing named in the section lead-in. The character described is Padmā, one of Candrāvalī's party (Candrāvalī being Rādhā's rival), as Viśvanātha's framing shows.
यह उदाहरण भिन्न-भिन्न कारणों से उत्पन्न विषाद और हर्ष (भिन्न-हेतुज) को दिखाता है — प्रकरण के आरम्भ में नामित वही युग्म। वर्णित पात्र पद्मा है, जो चन्द्रावली (राधा की प्रतिद्वन्द्विनी) के पक्ष की सखी है, जैसा विश्वनाथ की भूमिका से स्पष्ट होता है।

sthavayati sthūlaṁ kurvati ||
sthavayati[the verse's odd word] sthavayati'sthavayati' (यह क्रिया-पद)
sthūlaṁ kurvatimeans 'making [it] thick' — thickening, intensifying another locative present participle, matching mādhave: 'when he is making it thick'स्थूल (गाढ़ा) करते हुए — 'mādhave' के समान सप्तमी का दूसरा वर्तमान कृदन्त
sthavayati — the word sthavayati; sthūlaṁ kurvati — = 'making [it] thick.'
sthavayati — 'sthavayati' का अर्थ; sthūlaṁ kurvati — स्थूल (गाढ़ा) करते हुए।
Jīva just unpacks the unusual verb: sthavayati means sthūlaṁ kurvati, 'making it thick.' And it is a locative participle like mādhave — 'when Mādhava is thickening [his love].'

Viśvanātha sets the whole scene. On the Saubhāgya full-moon day, Lalitā comes from Gaurī-tīrtha looking for Kṛṣṇa. On the bank of Saṅkarṣaṇa-kuṇḍa she spots him sitting with Candrāvalī, Padmā, Śaivyā and the others. She walks into that gathering and starts talking — and whatever happened there is what Vṛndā is now retelling to Kundalatā. That is the frame of the verse. And the word sthavayati ('thickening his love') Viśvanātha grounds in a Vidagdha-mādhava verse where Vṛndā eggs Candrāvalī on: 'O jewel-doe whom Hari desires, you are always here — so pierce him, whose heart is in her power, with your captivating eyes.'
The quoted Vidagdha-mādhava line runs on a hunting śleṣa: Candrāvalī is hailed as sāraṅga-maṇi, 'jewel among does,' and viddhi puns 'know him / understand him' (√vid) against 'pierce him' (√vyadh) — pierce Kṛṣṇa with your heart-reaching glance as a hunter downs a deer.
