Uddhava is reporting how Rādhā behaves. In one place, hair flying loose, she flings herself down and rolls on the ground. In another place she cracks her knuckles — and, as the next line goes on, brows quivering, she curses Kaṁsa.
An udāharaṇa placed under the lead-in 'virahād yathā' — 'from separation, for example': the deranged behaviour of viraha, Rādhā out of her senses in separation from Kṛṣṇa. Uddhava, back from Vraja, reports it to Kṛṣṇa (so Viśvanātha).

The tamāla is a dark-barked tree; in her separation-madness she runs at its Kṛṣṇa-dark form — the derangement of viraha the verse is illustrating.
