sphūrjite nabhasi — when the sky thunders; bhīruḥ — the timid girl; udyatām [vidyutām] — of the lightning leaping up.
The sky cracks open with thunder. Rādhā, timid by nature, is the one it falls upon. And 'udyatām' — of the lightning that shoots up — leans forward into the next line.
An udāharaṇa (illustrative verse) of trāsa, 'sudden terror,' a vyabhicāri-bhāva of prakaraṇa 13; the lead-in fixes the case — 'sa taḍitā,' this trāsa is the kind brought on by lightning (taḍit).

She catches the blaze of the leaping lightning — and that one glimpse throws her into a tremble. The trembling of body and mind is the very mark of trāsa.

She, her frightened eyes still flickering, sinks onto Hari's chest. Notice the word 'cañcala,' darting — it is set here on purpose, to be caught up by 'cañcalā,' the lightning, in the last line.

She hides herself on Hari's chest and is lost to sight — exactly as a lightning-flash vanishes into a raincloud. This is the verse's picture: cloud-dark Kṛṣṇa is the jalada, the raincloud; the darting, gleaming Rādhā is the cañcalā, the lightning; and the bolt disappearing into the cloud is she disappearing into his embrace.

Jīva supplies the textbook definition: trāsa is a jolt to the heart set off by lightning, by terrifying creatures, or by sudden harsh noises.

iti trāsa-śaṅkā-bhayānām bhedaḥsuch, then, is the difference between trāsa, śaṅkā, and bhayaइस प्रकार त्रास, शंका और भय का भेद है
trāsaḥ akasmād vidyud-ādibhir manasaḥ kampaḥ — trāsa is the mind's sudden shaking from lightning etc.; pūrvāpara-vicārotthā śaṅkā — śaṅkā arises from weighing before-and-after; saivātisāndrā bahulā bhayam — that same, thickened and swollen, is bhaya; iti trāsa-śaṅkā-bhayānāṁ bhedaḥ — such is their difference.
Viśvanātha sorts three neighboring moods on one scale. Trāsa: the mind jolts suddenly, from a lightning-flash or the like. Śaṅkā: misgiving that comes from thinking a situation over. Bhaya: that same misgiving grown thick and heavy — full fear. So trāsa, śaṅkā, and bhaya differ by suddenness and degree.
