uttāmyantī viramati tamaḥ-stoma-sampat-prapañce
uttāmyantīgrowing faint with distress, coming apart fem. nom. pres. part. of ud-√tam; the heroine's state — Viśvanātha will gloss it 'vihvalā', overwhelmedअत्यन्त व्याकुल होती हुई (वह नायिका)
viramatias it dies down, once it recedes loc. sg. pres. part. — head of a locative-absolute with prapañce: 'when… is receding'जब शान्त हो रहा है / मन्द पड़ रहा है
tamaḥ-stoma-sampat-prapañcethe vast spread of night's massed darkness loc. abs. subject: tamaḥ = darkness, stoma = mass, sampat = abundance, prapañca = expanse — i.e. deep night thinning at daybreakअन्धकार की सघन राशि का विस्तार — अर्थात् प्रातःकाल में क्षीण होती गहरी रात
tamaḥ-stoma-sampat-prapañce viramati [sati] — when the vast spread of night's massed darkness is receding [dawn breaking]; uttāmyantī — she, growing faint with distress.
The thick expanse of night's darkness is thinning — day is breaking. And she comes apart with dread. The onset of morning is exactly what frightens her: her secret is about to be exposed in the light.
An udāharaṇa of śaṅkā (apprehension) arising from aparādha, 'an offense' — see the lead-in 'aparādhād, yathā lalita-mādhave (2.4).' A gopī slipping home at dawn after a night's tryst is seized by the fear of having been found out; śaṅkā is the vyabhicāri-bhāva introduced at v030 ('atha śaṅkā') and defined at v032. The verse is spoken by Vṛndā (so Viśvanātha).
