L1example
krīḍantyās taṭa-bhuvi mādhavena sārdhaṁ
krīḍantyāḥof her as she plays genitive fem.; hangs unresolved until 'rādhāyāḥ' in L3 picks it up — 'of Rādhā, as she plays'खेलती हुई (राधा) की — यह षष्ठी L3 के 'राधायाः' तक अधूरी टँगी रहती है
taṭa-bhuvion the ground of the river-bank locative of place — where the play happensतट की भूमि पर (जहाँ यह क्रीड़ा हो रही है)
mādhavena sārdhamtogether with Mādhava (Kṛṣṇa)माधव (कृष्ण) के साथ
krīḍantyāḥ [rādhāyāḥ] — of Rādhā as she plays; taṭa-bhuvi — on the river-bank; mādhavena sārdham — together with Mādhava.
Rādhā is playing on the river-bank, at Mādhava's (Kṛṣṇa's) side.
An udāharaṇa (illustrative verse) for bhī, fear, as the cause of a sāttvika transformation — here vaivarṇya, a change of bodily color, shown as the kālimā (darkening) of Rādhā's complexion; introduced by the lead-in 'bhīter, yathā—' ('of fear, for example').

ārātclose at hand indeclinable — 'from near by'; it is his sudden nearness that alarms herपास ही से — उसकी यही अकस्मात् निकटता उसे घबरा देती है
patimher husband accusative, object of 'avalokya'पति को (देखने का कर्म)
avalokyaon catching sight of gerund — the seeing triggers the frightदेखकर — यही देखना घबराहट को जगा देता है
viklavāyāḥof her, thrown into panic genitive fem., again agreeing with 'rādhāyāḥ' of L3घबराई हुई (राधा) की — फिर वही षष्ठी, L3 के 'राधायाः' से मिलती हुई
tatra — there; ārāt — close at hand; patim — her husband; avalokya — on catching sight of; viklavāyāḥ [rādhāyāḥ] — of Rādhā, thrown into panic.
Right there she catches sight of her husband, close by — and it throws her into a panic.
The husband here is only a 'husband' in name — Viśvanātha (below) calls him the patiṁmanya, the man who takes himself for her husband.

rādhāyās tanum anu kālimā tathāsīt

tanum anuspreading all over her body 'anu' is a karma-pravacanīya governing the accusative 'tanum' — 'along / over the body'देह पर / देह भर (यहाँ 'अनु' कर्मप्रवचनीय होकर द्वितीया 'तनुम्' को लेता है)
kālimāa blackness, a darkening of her complexion nominative — the subject; this is the sāttvika change of color born of fearकालिमा (श्यामता) — कर्ता; यही भय से उपजा वर्ण का सात्त्विक विकार है
tathā āsītso came upon her — to such a degree 'tathā' sets up the correlative 'yathā' of L4: so dark … that …
rādhāyāḥ — of Rādhā; tanum anu — over her whole body; kālimā — a darkening; tathā āsīt — so arose [that … L4].
A blackness came over Rādhā's whole body — and it spread so far that…

yathā na paryacāyisuch that she could not be made out 'yathā' answers 'tathā' of L3; 'paryacāyi' is aorist passive of pari-√ci, 'to discern, recognize'पहचानी न जा सकी — 'यथा' L3 के 'तथा' का उत्तर देता है; 'पर्यचायि' परि-√ची ('पहचानना') का लुङ् कर्मवाच्य है

vṛndāraṇye — in Vṛndāvana; yā līlā — the play there; sukha-pūrvikā ceṣṭā — [is] joyful activity; tayā — by that; yaḥ vihāraḥ — the roaming; itas tato bhramaṇam — [is] wandering here and there; tasmin — in that.
Jīva unpacks the 'playing': in Vṛndāvana there is līlā — activity carried on in joy. Out of that comes vihāra, the roaming — which just means wandering this way and that. The scene is set in that roaming.

dyauḥ — the sky; kim iva kathaṁ — in what way, how; niśīthe ardha-rātre — at dead midnight; prasarat — spreading out; ity-ādi-lakṣaṇā — a remark of that type; jāyate — arises; tatra tatra agamya-abhāvāt — because nowhere there is anything hidden from view.
A description of the type 'how the sky stretches out at dead midnight…' comes up, since in that setting nothing on any side is beyond view.
This sentence is textually difficult, and its words ('dyauḥ… niśīthe… prasarat', 'śāradī' below) do not appear in the mūla of verse 24 as printed; Jīva seems to be handling a fuller night-scene reading before him. The drift of the passage — clarified by s4 — is that the darkness on Rādhā's body cannot be blamed on the night or the sky, since on such a night nothing is hidden from view.

śāradīti |
śāradīthe word 'śāradī' — 'of the autumn [night]' a pratīka: Jīva lifts out the lemma to comment on it; his gloss follows in s4'शारदी' (यह पद) — जीव प्रतीक के रूप में इसे उठाकर आगे इसकी व्याख्या करते हैं
iti— with this he flags the word he is taking upइस प्रकार (यह पद लेकर)
śāradī iti — [Jīva now takes up] the word 'śāradī.'
He picks up the word 'śāradī,' 'of the autumn night,' to comment on next.
'śāradī' is not in the printed mūla of this verse; Jīva cites it as a lemma from the reading he is working with.

The import: with no lightning or the like there to explain it, this darkening could not have come about in any other way. So the kālimā over her body has to be the real sāttvika blackness of fear, not an outside effect.
