L1definition
vyarthālāpaḥ pralāpaḥ syāt ||
vyarthālāpaḥmeaningless, pointless talk — chatter with no object vyartha-ālāpaḥ, karmadhāraya: 'ālāpa (talk) that is vyartha (aimless, without point)'व्यर्थ आलाप — जो बातचीत निरर्थक, निष्प्रयोजन हो
pralāpaḥis pralāpa (raving, delirious babble) — the term being definedउसे प्रलाप कहते हैं
syātwould be — i.e. is what is meant by / is defined asहोता है
vyarthālāpaḥ — meaningless talk; pralāpaḥ syāt — would be pralāpa.
vyarthālāpaḥ — निरर्थक बातचीत; pralāpaḥ — प्रलाप; syāt — (वह) होती है।
This is the definition (lakṣaṇa). Purposeless, meaningless talk is what is called pralāpa. When someone pours out words that carry no real point — raving — that outward display is the anubhāva named pralāpa.
जो बातचीत निरर्थक और निष्प्रयोजन हो, उसे प्रलाप कहते हैं।
pralāpa is one of the anubhāvas, the outward symptoms that display bhāva. Here the lakṣaṇa (definition) of verse 87 is followed by its udāharaṇa (illustration) in verse 88 (L2-L5).
प्रलाप अनुभावों में से एक है — वे बाहरी चिह्न जो भीतर के भाव को प्रकट करते हैं। यहाँ श्लोक ८७ का लक्षण दिया गया, और उसके बाद श्लोक ८८ (L2-L5) में उसका उदाहरण आता है।

karoti nādaṁ muralī ralī ralī
karotimakes, producesकरती है
nādaṁa sound — object of 'makes'नाद (ध्वनि) को
muralīthe muralī (flute) — the subject that makes the soundमुरली (बाँसुरी)
ralī ralīra-lī ra-lī — bare, meaningless echo-syllables (the tail of muralī, doubled); the raving itself breaking through yamaka: the last syllables of muralī repeated; marked vyartha (meaningless) by Viśvanātha at s2"रली रली" — मुरली के अन्तिम अक्षरों की पुनरावृत्ति (यमक), जिसे विश्वनाथ निरर्थक कहते हैं
muralī — the flute; karoti nādaṁ — makes a sound; ralī ralī — [then the babble:] ralī ralī.
muralī — मुरली; karoti — करती है; nādaṁ — नाद को; ralī ralī — "रली रली"।
The muralī, the flute, makes its sound. Then comes 'ralī ralī' — empty syllables, the tail of the word muralī echoed twice. That echo is the raving itself: intoxicated, she breaks off into babble that means nothing. Each line of this verse works the same way — a real clause, then a meaningless echo.
मुरली नाद करती है — "रली रली"।
An udāharaṇa (illustration) of pralāpa, the 'meaningless delirious raving' defined in the preceding line (UN 11.87); cited from Padyāvalī 269. Per Viśvanātha, Śrī Rādhā, intoxicated with honey-wine, raves before Kṛṣṇa; the doubled tail-syllables that close each line are the vyartha (empty) words of the definition.

vrajāṅganā-hṛn-mathanaṁ thanaṁ thanam |
vrajāṅganā-hṛn-mathanaṁ[a sound] that churns the hearts of the women of Vraja — describing that flute-sound vraja-aṅganā-hṛt-mathanam; accusative agreeing with nādaṁ (L2): the flute's sound is heart-churningव्रज की स्त्रियों के हृदय को मथने वाला (नाद का विशेषण)
thanaṁ thanamtha-naṁ tha-nam — meaningless echo-syllables (the tail of mathanam, doubled); the babble again"थनं थनं"
vrajāṅganā-hṛn-mathanaṁ — [a sound] that churns the Vraja women's hearts; thanaṁ thanam — [then babble:] thanaṁ thanam.
vrajāṅganā-hṛn-mathanaṁ — व्रज-स्त्रियों के हृदय को मथने वाला (नाद); thanaṁ thanam — "थनं थनं"।
That flute-sound churns the hearts of the gopīs, the women of Vraja. Then again the raving: 'thanaṁ thanam' — the tail of mathanam ('churning') echoed, empty syllables with no sense.
वह नाद व्रज की स्त्रियों के हृदय को मथ देता है — "थनं थनं"।

tato vidūnā bhajate jate jate
tataḥtherefore, because of that [heart-churning sound]तब, उसके पश्चात्
vidūnāsorely pained, tormented — she, the afflicted one vidūnā, fem. nom., agreeing with lalitā (L5)अत्यन्त व्यथित हुई (ललिता की विशेषण)
bhajateresorts to, takes shelter of, turns toभजती है, आपकी शरण लेती है
jate jateja-te ja-te — meaningless echo-syllables (the tail of bhajate, doubled); more raving"जते जते"
tataḥ — therefore; vidūnā — the pained one; bhajate — resorts to [you]; jate jate — [then babble:] jate jate.
tataḥ — तब; vidūnā — अत्यन्त व्यथित (ललिता); bhavantaṁ bhajate — आपको भजती है; jate jate — "जते जते"।
Therefore — struck by that sound — she is sorely pained, and she turns to take shelter. Then the raving once more: 'jate jate,' the tail of bhajate echoed, meaningless.
तब अत्यन्त व्यथित होकर वह आपको भजती है — "जते जते"।
L5example
hare bhavantaṁ lalitā litā litā ||
hareO Hari — addressed to Kṛṣṇa (vocative)हे हरि!
bhavantaṁyou — object of 'resorts to' (bhajate, L4)आपको
lalitāthe charming, playful woman — the subject, she who resorts fem. nom.; the meaningful word, just before it dissolves into babbleललिता — अर्थपूर्ण शब्द, जो अभी टूटकर बड़बड़ाहट में बदल जाता है
litā litāli-tā li-tā — meaningless echo-syllables (the tail of lalitā, doubled); the raving trails off"लिता लिता"
hare — O Hari; lalitā — the charming one; bhavantaṁ bhajate — resorts to you; litā litā — [then trails into babble:] litā litā.
hare — हे हरि!; lalitā — ललिता; bhavantaṁ — आपको (भजती है); litā litā — "लिता लिता"।
'O Hari, the charming one turns to you' — that is the sense that struggles through. Then it dissolves: 'litā litā,' the tail of lalitā echoed. Read whole, the four lines say: the flute makes a heart-churning sound for the Vraja women, so the pained charming one takes shelter of you, O Hari. But every line alternates that real clause with empty doubled syllables — and that alternation IS the pralāpa, the intoxicated raving the definition named.
हे हरि! ललिता आपको भजती है — "लिता लिता"।

karotīti'karoti…' — naming the illustration by its opening word karoti + iti, the udāharaṇa cited by its first word"करोति" इत्यादि — उदाहरण अपने पहले शब्द से उद्धृत
madhu-pānena — because she has drunk honey-wine; unmattā — intoxicated; śrī-rādhā — Śrī Rādhā; śrī-kṛṣṇam āha — speaks to Śrī Kṛṣṇa; karotīti — [the verse] 'karoti…'.
madhu-pānena — मधुपान के कारण; unmattā — उन्मत्त; śrī-rādhā — श्रीराधा; śrī-kṛṣṇam — श्रीकृष्ण से; āha — कहती हैं; karotīti — "करोति" इत्यादि।
Viśvanātha sets the scene. Rādhā has drunk madhu, honey-wine, and is intoxicated by it. In that state she speaks to Kṛṣṇa — and the verse 'karoti…' is what she says. So the raving is drunken speech; that is why it keeps breaking into meaningless syllables.
मधु-मद्य के पान से उन्मत्त हुई श्रीराधा श्रीकृष्ण से कहती हैं — "करोति..."।

Viśvanātha spells it out. The strings 'ralī ralī, thanaṁ thanam, jate jate, litā litā' are vyartha — meaningless. That is the whole point of the example: these empty doubled syllables are the vyartha-ālāpa that the definition (L1) called pralāpa. The commentary ties the illustration straight back to the lakṣaṇa.
यहाँ "रली रली, थनं थनं, जते जते, लिता लिता" — ये शब्द निरर्थक हैं। यही परिभाषा का व्यर्थ-आलाप है।
