An udāharaṇa of hrī ('bashfulness') as an anubhāva — the second illustration ('yathā vā'; lead-in 'tatra hriyā, yathā—'). Viśvanātha names the speaker as Viśākhā, reporting Rādhā's conduct to Lalitā, and explains why a second example is needed: unlike pulaka (a spontaneous sāttvika-bhāva that carries no clear gesture), here the bashful heroine's state is conveyed by a deliberate, legible glance.

nāyikā-kartṛkaṁ vijñapanamthe informing done by the heroine [of her heart] kartṛka compound: the nāyikā is the agent of the vijñapanaनायिका जिसकी कर्त्री हो ऐसा वह ज्ञापन (नायिका द्वारा किया गया संकेत)
aspaṣṭaṁ na iti āha'is not unclear [here]' — saying which, he speaks na negates aspaṣṭaṁ: the contrast that motivates a fresh example'अस्पष्ट न रह जाए' — यह सोचकर कहते हैं
yathā vā itiwith the words 'yathā vā' ('or, as in…')'यथा वा' (ऐसा कहकर)
atra — here; pulakasya sāttvikatvena svabhāva-utthatvāt — because pulaka, being a sāttvika-bhāva, rises spontaneously; aspaṣṭa-ceṣṭā-abhāvāt — and because it has no distinct gesture; tena nāyikā-kartṛkaṁ vijñapanam aspaṣṭaṁ na — therefore the heroine's informing [is] not unclear [in the case now given]; iti āha yathā vā iti — saying which, he speaks: 'yathā vā.'
Viśvanātha sets up the second example. Pulaka (horripilation) is a sāttvika-bhāva: it rises on its own, and it shows no distinct gesture. So through pulaka the heroine cannot clearly inform her friend of her heart — the message stays vague. To give a case where the message is NOT vague, he adds 'yathā vā,' 'or, as in [this next verse].'
यहाँ पुलक सात्त्विक-भाव है, अतः वह स्वभाव से ही उठ आता है और उसमें कोई स्पष्ट चेष्टा नहीं होती; इस कारण नायिका के द्वारा किया गया संकेत अस्पष्ट रह जाता। ऐसा न हो, इसलिए 'यथा वा' कहकर दूसरा उदाहरण देते हैं।

Viśvanātha says Viśākhā's joke was aimed at drawing out Rādhā's heart. And he reads 'sa-dayam' as 'the look in which compassion dwells' — a compassion shaped as an entreaty, 'please gladden [him]!' He too treats it as an adverb: a look done in that manner.

sva-vivakṣitaṁ vyañjitamher intended meaning was suggested [without being said] vyañjita = conveyed by suggestion (vyañjanā), the technical termअपना अभिप्राय व्यंजना से प्रकट किया गया
udayat-kārpaṇyam iti viśeṣaṇa-sāhacaryāt — because 'udayat-kārpaṇyam' accompanies [the verb] as its qualifier; aikṣata iti tathā-bhūta-īkṣaṇa-kriyā eva ceṣṭā — the act of looking so described, 'she looked,' is itself the gesture; tayā ca — and by it; eka-vāram api śrī-kṛṣṇam avalokayitum ājñāpaya — 'arrange that I may see Śrī Kṛṣṇa even once'; anyathā jīvitum ahaṁ na prabhaviṣyāmi iti — 'else I shall not be able to live'; sva-vivakṣitaṁ vyañjitam — her intended meaning was thus suggested.
Now the payoff. Because 'rising helplessness' hangs on the verb as its qualifier, the look itself — 'she looked,' a look of that very kind — is Rādhā's gesture (ceṣṭā). And by that look she suggests her real wish: 'Arrange for me to see Śrī Kṛṣṇa even once — otherwise I shall not be able to live.' So the single glance conveys (vyañjita) what she meant to say, without her saying it — the clear communicative gesture that pulaka could not give.
'उदयत्-कार्पण्यम्' — यह विशेषण साथ में होने के कारण, 'ऐक्षत' अर्थात् उस प्रकार की देखने की क्रिया ही चेष्टा है। और उसी दृष्टि के द्वारा — 'एक बार भी श्रीकृष्ण को देखने की अनुमति दे, नहीं तो मैं जीवित न रह सकूँगी' — यह अपना अभिप्राय उसने व्यंजना से प्रकट किया।
