When the beloved has done something wrong, the woman stops tending her looks. Ornaments stay on her only because a friend took the trouble to put them there — not because she herself bothered. This is the first half of one school's definition of vicchitti.

vicchitti (a technical anubhāva): a studied under-dressing or disarray that, out of pique at the beloved, wears only a token of ornament yet still charms.

An udāharaṇa (illustrative verse) of vicchitti, the anubhāva just defined in 11.37: at the beloved's offense a fine woman throws off her adornment. Viśvanātha (below, s3) names the speaker as the sulking Śrī Rādhā, addressing her friend Viśākhā.

Here the verse pivots, and it turns on a pun. bhujaṅga means both 'serpent' and 'lover, gallant.' A snake's very look sheds venom; so Kṛṣṇa-the-snake's unstoppable sidelong glance has poisoned these jewels. Underneath sits the barb: Kṛṣṇa the philanderer's glance has 'tainted' them. Hence 'O naive one' — Viśākhā cannot see why the ornaments must go.
śleṣa on bhujaṅga: literally 'serpent' (whose glance rains poison), and by pun 'paramour, gallant' — the jab at Kṛṣṇa's faithlessness. dūṣite doubles the same way: 'poisoned' and 'made faulty.'

Viśvanātha glosses priyāgasi exactly as Jīva does — 'when the beloved has offended.' Then he ties in serṣyāvajñā: the vicchitti meant here is the kind that comes bundled with jealousy and contempt.

bhujaṅga carries two senses at once — 'serpent' and 'paramour, gallant.' Viśvanātha's gloss develops the serpent side (poison by a glance), while the lover-sense stays as the barb aimed at Kṛṣṇa.

Viśvanātha spells out the snake-pun. A serpent poisons by its mere glance, so Kṛṣṇa-the-snake's look has left venom clinging to the jewels. And Rādhā's own limbs are already smeared with that same glance-venom. To press the poisoned ornaments back onto poisoned skin would only double the burn — so off they must come. Under the serpent image sits the real charge: the faithless lover's look has 'tainted' everything.
