The udāharaṇa illustrating dīpti, just defined in 11.17 — kānti kindled by youth, enjoyment, place, time, and qualities into an excessive expansion. Verse 18 sets the scene: Rādhā asleep in a bower after a night of union (so Viśvanātha spells it out below). Its opening word, nimīlat ('eyes falling shut'), sits in the lead-in; this line picks up mid-verse.

That young Rādhā stretched desire wide open in Hari's mind.
tene (√tan, 'stretch out') answers the vistāra ('expansion') of the definition: her dīpti — itself kānti expanded — in turn expands kāma in Hari. The word makes the illustration turn back on its own lakṣaṇa.
