hṛdi makarīr api rādhikā likhantī |
hṛdion [Viśākhā's] breast loc.; completes viśākhā-hṛdi carried over from the opening line (viśākhā- ends the lead-in)(विशाखा के) हृदय पर
makarīr apithough [she was drawing] makara-designs makarīḥ acc. pl., object; makarī = ornamental dolphin/makara figures painted on the body; api = 'though', concessive — she sets out to draw these, yet ends up drawing Kṛṣṇaमकर की आकृतियाँ ही — यद्यपि वही बनाने चली थी
rādhikāRādhikā [is the one drawing] nom., subject of likhantī and lilekhaराधिका
likhantīas she was drawingचित्रित करती हुई
rādhikā — Rādhikā; (mṛgamada-lekhayā — with a line of musk;) viśākhā-hṛdi — on Viśākhā's breast; makarīḥ — makara-designs; likhantī — while drawing; api — though
O friend! Rādhikā was painting makara-designs — ornamental dolphin figures — on Viśākhā's breast with a line of musk. Her hand was set to draw those decorations. Hold on to that 'though': the ornament she means to draw is not what her hand will finish.
An udāharaṇa of tat-preṣṭha-dṛṣṭi, 'the sight of [Kṛṣṇa's] dearmost', one of the uddīpanas (excitants of rasa) listed in this prakaraṇa 10 — as the lead-in names it, 'tat-preṣṭha-dṛṣṭir, yathā'. Here the dear one is Subala, Kṛṣṇa's own cowherd friend; seeing him is the excitant that stirs Rādhā's love.

subalam avakalayya ghūrṇitāgre
subalamSubala [came into her view] acc., object of avakalayya; Subala is Kṛṣṇa's dear cowherd friend — his sight is the excitant (tat-preṣṭha-dṛṣṭi)सुबल को
avakalayyaon catching sight of gerund; the glimpse of Subala is what turns her handदेख लेने पर
ghūrṇitāgrewith the tip [of her drawing hand] now set reeling ghūrṇita-agre, loc. of attendant circumstance; ghūrṇita = whirling, unsteady — her point wanders as her mind drifts to Kṛṣṇaजब (लेखनी का) अग्रभाग घूमने-डगमगाने लगा
subalam — Subala; avakalayya — having caught sight of; ghūrṇita-agre — the tip [of her drawing] set reeling
But she catches sight of Subala. Because Subala is Kṛṣṇa's dear friend, that one glimpse pulls her mind to Kṛṣṇa. The point of her hand begins to wander, the strokes going astray.

pulakavatī vana-mālinaṁ lilekha ||
pulakavatīthrilled, her hair standing on end nom. fem., -vatī = possessing pulaka (horripilation) — a sāttvika bodily sign of love breaking outरोमांचित होकर (शरीर पर रोमांच उभर आने से)
vana-mālinaṁKṛṣṇa, the wearer of the forest-flower garland acc., object of lilekha; vana-mālin names Kṛṣṇa by his garland — what she draws is him, not the makaraवनमाली (अर्थात् कृष्ण) को
lilekhashe drew [instead] perfect 3 sg.
pulakavatī — thrilled, hair bristling; vana-mālinaṁ — Kṛṣṇa the forest-garlanded; lilekha — she drew
Thrilled, her hair standing on end, she drew — and what came out under her hand was not the makara-ornament at all, but Kṛṣṇa himself, the wearer of the forest-garland. Seeing his dear friend had so filled her with him that her hand painted him instead. That is the excitant at work.

rūpa-mañjarī — Rūpa-mañjarī; sakhīm — to a friend; āha — speaks; sakhi iti — the verse beginning 'sakhi'
Viśvanātha assigns the speech: it is Rūpa-mañjarī speaking to a friend. That is what the opening word 'sakhi' (O friend) tells us — the address marks who is talking to whom.
