An udāharaṇa of barha-guñje — the peacock-feather and the guñjā-berry as uddīpana-vibhāva, the excitants that kindle rasa; from Vidagdha-mādhava 2.16. These are Kṛṣṇa's own emblems, so the mere sight of them fires Rādhā's mood of love-in-separation and its bodily symptoms.

navīna-grahaḥ turns on a śleṣa: graha is a demon or evil planet that 'seizes' and possesses a person, and the trembling and weeping look exactly like such an affliction. The speaker names the true cause without knowing it — love for Kṛṣṇa, stirred by his emblems (the peacock-feather, the guñjā). This pun is the verse's headline: what looks like a spirit-possession is bhakti.

agra itiso runs the verse beginning 'agre' pratīka — Viśvanātha names the mūla by its first word'अग्रे' इस (आरम्भ-पद) से — इस श्लोक को
mukharā — Mukharā; śrī-rādhā-ceṣṭitam — Rādhā's behaviour; paurṇamāsīm — to Paurṇamāsī; āvedayati — reports; agra iti — hence 'agre'.
Viśvanātha sets the scene: Mukharā is reporting Śrī Rādhā's strange behaviour to Paurṇamāsī — and so the verse opens with 'agre'.
Dramatis personae of Vidagdha-mādhava: Mukharā is the aged, talkative gopī (Rādhā's grandmother-figure); Paurṇamāsī is the elderly ascetic who watches over the līlā. It is Mukharā, not Rādhā, who speaks the verse — she is describing what she sees Rādhā do.

virahiṇī śrī-rādhā — Rādhā in separation; govardhana-stham gairikam — the red ochre on Govardhana; ālokya — seeing; āha — says; ābhīra iti — hence 'ābhīra'.
Then Viśvanātha adds a second example verse: Rādhā, pining in separation, catches sight of the red ochre on Govardhana hill and speaks — the verse beginning 'ābhīra'.
gairika is red ochre (ruddle), a red mineral pigment found on the hill. Its redness works as one more uddīpana; the pun on its colour (rāga = red) and her longing (rāga = passion) is exactly what the next two glosses unpack. The 'ābhīra' verse itself is quoted by Viśvanātha but is not among the decoded atoms here.

sa apāṁśulo'malinaḥhe is 'apāṁśula', that is, spotlessवह 'अपांशुल' अर्थात् निर्मल
yena — by whom; indra-gopasya aṁśuḥ — the glow of the indragopa insect; kṣiptaḥ tiraskṛtaḥ — is outshone; saḥ apāṁśulaḥ — he is apāṁśula; amalinaḥ — spotless.
He unpacks the word apāṁśula: 'the one by whom the glow of the indra-gopa — that tiny scarlet rain-insect — is outshone.' So apāṁśula means spotlessly radiant, immaculate.
indra-gopa is the little brilliant-red 'rain-cochineal' (a velvet mite) that swarms at the first rains, proverbial for vivid redness. apāṁśula literally is 'un-dusty' = unsullied; Viśvanātha hears an aṁśu ('ray') inside the word and reads it as 'one whose radiance eclipses even that scarlet glow.'

rāgaṁ — rāga; tad-darśana-tṛṣṇām — the longing to behold him.
And rāga he glosses as the thirst to see Kṛṣṇa. The one word carries both the red ochre's colour and her love — the sight of the red hill inflames her longing for him.
śleṣa on rāga: 'redness' (the colour of the ochre) and 'passion, longing.' Viśvanātha picks the emotional sense — the ache to behold Kṛṣṇa — which the red stimulant excites.
