eṣa veṇoḥ kala-svanaḥ — this sweet note of the flute; taru-latā-vyājṛmbhaṇe — for the blossoming of trees and vines; dohadaṁ [asti] — is their dohada, the bloom-inducing tonic.
This is the sweet note of Kṛṣṇa's flute. For the trees and vines it works like a dohada — the fertility-tonic a plant is thought to crave before it can burst into flower. The sound is what makes the whole grove blossom.
An udāharaṇa (illustrative verse) for vaṁśī-rava, Kṛṣṇa's flute-sound, as an uddīpana-vibhāva — an excitant of rasa; quoted from Dāna-keli-kaumudī 32, spoken (per Viśvanātha) by Vṛndā. dohada literally is a pregnant woman's craving, hence poetically the stimulant a tree 'craves' in order to bloom (as the aśoka is said to bloom at a woman's touch).

The cuckoos are twice-born — dvija means both 'bird' and 'brahmin.' So their 'kuhu' cooing is the brahmins' Veda-recitation (svādhyāya), and they run it through in full, a pārāyaṇa. For that recitation the flute-sound is the deep rolling thunder of twilight.

The gopīs' faces are moons; inside them burns the fire of desire (smara = kāma), and its flame leaps up. For that flaring-up the flute-sound is a playful breeze — the wind that makes a fire blaze higher. The sound inflames their longing.

Rādhā's composure (dhairya) is a great mountain, king of peaks. To smash that mountain the flute-sound turns into Indra's thunderbolt (dambholi = vajra). And so — unmīlati — it breaks forth. Notice: one sweet flute-note is at once tonic, thunder, breeze, and thunderbolt — a mālā-rūpaka, a garland of metaphors, each naming a different heart it conquers.

Jīva pins down one word. pārāyaṇa means doing the Veda-recitation completely — reciting the whole text from beginning to end, leaving nothing out.

vyājṛmbhaṇe — in vyājṛmbhaṇa; puṣpādi-prakāśe nimitte — namely when the appearance of flowers etc. is the occasion; dohadaṁ — the word dohada; vāñchanīyam — means the craved thing; ity arthaḥ — that is the sense.

Now the other word. vyājṛmbhaṇa is the occasion when flowers and the rest break open — the plant's blossoming. On that occasion dohada means simply 'the thing craved,' what the plant longs for in order to bloom. So the flute-sound is that longed-for stimulant.

tad-ānanda-kauṣadha-viśeṣaḥmeans a special herbal tonic that gives them that joy kauṣadha = auṣadha, a medicinal herb; viśeṣa = a particular kindउस आनन्द की एक विशेष औषधि (है)
vyājṛmbhaṇe — in vyājṛmbhaṇa; puṣpa-pallavādi-prakāśe nimitte — namely the occasion when flowers, buds and so on appear; dohadaṁ — the word dohada; tad-ānanda-kauṣadha-viśeṣaḥ — means a special herb that gives them that delight.
Viśvanātha glosses the same two words, but reads dohada differently from Jīva. vyājṛmbhaṇa is again the plants putting out flowers, buds and shoots. Here, though, dohada is a special medicinal herb (auṣadha) — the tonic that gives the trees and vines their blossoming joy. So for Viśvanātha the flute-sound is that herb.
Jīva read dohada as vāñchanīya, 'the thing craved'; Viśvanātha reads it as an auṣadha-viśeṣa, 'a special herb.' The two glosses stand side by side — do not fold one into the other.

Last, one word from the fourth line. dambholi means vajra — Indra's thunderbolt. And it is no ordinary crash: it surpasses even the roll of twilight thunder. That is the weapon the flute-sound becomes to break Rādhā's resolve.
