Lifting up his red ball-bat with the curved tip — Mukunda raises the reddish stick used to drive the ball, its end bent like a hook. (The subject and verb, viracayati mukundaḥ, 'Mukunda makes...,' stand at the head of the verse.)
An udāharaṇa illustrating kandūka-krīḍā, 'ball-play,' as an uddīpana (an excitant that kindles the mood) in the rāsa setting — the lead-in reads tatra rāsaḥ, then kandūka-krīḍā.

dvipula-nayana-bhaṅgī-vibhramaḥ kautukaṁ naḥ ||
dvipula-nayana-bhaṅgī-vibhramaḥthe charm of his wide, dancing eyes' play nom. bahuvrīhi; the opening d- is the sandhi-tail of nṛtyad ('dancing') from the run-in compound — read nṛtyad-vipula-nayana, 'wide dancing eyes'जिसके विशाल (नाचते हुए) नयनों की भंगिमा का विलास है
kautukaṁdelight, wonder — what he makes acc., object of viracayati ('makes'), which heads the verseकौतुक (आनन्द) को
naḥfor us / in us — the watching gopīs gen.-dat. pl.
mukundaḥ (from the opening) — Mukunda; [nṛtyad-]vipula-nayana-bhaṅgī-vibhramaḥ — the charm of whose wide eyes darting about; naḥ kautukam viracayati — makes our delight.
As the ball tosses, his broad eyes dance after it, and the grace of that darting glance works wonder in us who watch. Mukunda makes our delight.
The atom's opening 'dvipula' is a mis-split: the d belongs to the preceding word nṛtyad ('dancing,' from kanduka-āndola-nṛtyad- in the run-in compound), so the reading is nṛtyad-vipula-nayana, 'his wide dancing eyes.' Viśvanātha's gloss below (nṛtyator vipulayor nayanayoḥ) confirms vipula, not dvipula.

dvayam — this pair of verses; sakhyā — by a girlfriend; kāñcit prati — to a certain companion; vacanam — is her speech.
These two verses, Jīva says, are one girlfriend's speech to another. He fixes the speaker as a sakhī addressing some companion.
dvayam ('the pair') tells us this verse and the next go together as a single utterance. Jīva names the speaker only as 'a girlfriend'; Viśvanātha below will name her Rādhā.

tena avagatatvāt ca — and because [the pastimes] are apprehended through this [witnessing]; tat-tat-līlāyāḥ — of those several pastimes; uddīpana-tvam — [there is] their being an uddīpana.
And since these various pastimes are perceived through such a scene, they count as an uddīpana — an excitant that kindles the mood. That is Jīva's point: the ball-play, being directly witnessed, fires the rasa. This ties the verse to the chapter's topic.

Viśvanātha names the speaker as Rādhā herself, hidden behind the vines; Jīva above left her only 'a girlfriend.' The two are not harmonized — read each on its own.

'Red-hued' means dyed with vermilion. The kṣepaṇī is the little bat for knocking the ball up. He raises it, flinging it to send the ball aloft. And his long braid, whirling as he runs, takes on a wondrous grace. So Viśvanātha decodes the reddened bat of the first line and the whirling-braid compound of the second.

As the ball bounces about, his two wide eyes dance after it, and the arching play of that glance is his vibhrama — a special radiance all its own. Viśvanātha glosses vibhramaḥ as śobhā-viśeṣaḥ ('a beauty of its own kind') and reads nṛtyad-vipula-nayana, 'wide dancing eyes' — which settles that the verse says nṛtyad-vipula, not 'dvipula.'
