bhrājante — शोभित होते हैं; vara-danti-mauktika-gaṇāḥ — उत्तम हाथियों के मोती-समूह (अथवा—हे सुन्दर दाँतों वाली); yasya — जिस [सिंह/हरि] के; ullikhadbhiḥ nakhaiḥ — कुरेदते हुए नखों से।
These clusters of elephant-pearls gleam. They were torn loose and scattered by the upward-raking claws of him — the lion, and, underneath, Kṛṣṇa. (Elephant-pearls are the pearls said to form in a great tusker's temple-bosses; a lion kills the elephant and the pearls spill out.) On the second reading vara-danti is peeled off as a separate word — a pet-name for Rādhā, 'O lovely-toothed one.'
जिसके कुरेदते हुए नखों से उत्तम हाथियों के मोती-समूह शोभित होते हैं। सम्पूर्ण पद एक ही श्लेष पर चलता है—ऊपरी अर्थ में सिंह, गूढ़ अर्थ में हरि अर्थात् कृष्ण। 'वर-दन्ति' को सम्बोधन मानने पर—हे सुन्दर दाँतों वाली।
Udāharaṇa (illustrative verse) spoken by Śyāmalā to Śrī Rādhā (so Viśvanātha), set up by the lead-in 'tan-mādhuryam—': it illustrates tan-mādhurya, that sweetness [of Kṛṣṇa], as the uddīpana-vibhāva (excitant of rasa) at this point. The whole four-line verse runs on one sustained śleṣa — surface: a lion (siṁha, 'hari'); hidden: Hari, Kṛṣṇa.

Jīva takes vara-danti two ways. As a vocative it is he vara-danti, 'O lovely-toothed one' — that is, O you of the finest teeth, addressed to Rādhā. On the other reading it is vara-dantinām, 'of the finest elephants (tuskers)' — so the phrase means 'clusters of pearls of the finest tuskers.'
एक अर्थ में—हे श्रेष्ठ दाँतों वाली (सम्बोधन)। दूसरे पक्ष में—उत्तम हाथियों के मोती-समूह (षष्ठी)।
The pun turns on danti vs. dantin: danti (from danta) suggests 'toothed [woman]', while dantin means 'tusker, elephant' (its genitive plural dantinām folds into the pearl-compound).
श्लेष 'दन्ति' और 'दन्तिन्' के भेद पर टिका है—दन्ति (दन्त से) 'दाँतों वाली [स्त्री]' का बोध कराता है, जबकि दन्तिन् का अर्थ 'दाँत वाला अर्थात् हाथी' है, जिसका षष्ठी-बहुवचन 'दन्तिनाम्' मोती-समास में समा जाता है।

Viśvanātha: Śyāmalā is speaking to Śrī Rādhā. 'How was that lion (hari) bound by you with a mere netra?' The very address 'O doe-eyed one' (hariṇekṣaṇe) carries a wonder, since hariṇa means a doe: you sent out just one doe — your doe-like eye — and by that single doe you bound a lion! That is the astonishment.
श्यामला श्रीराधा से कहती है—वह हरि (सिंह) तूने नेत्र से कैसे बाँध लिया? 'हे मृगनयनी' इस सम्बोधन से यह भाव है कि केवल एक ही मृग को भेजकर उसी के द्वारा आपने सिंह को बाँध लिया—यही आश्चर्य है।

hetau — for cause; śatṛ-pratyayaḥ — the śatṛ (-at) suffix is used
hetau — हेतु अर्थ में; śatṛ-pratyayaḥ — शतृ प्रत्यय।
The present-participle ending (-at, called śatṛ) in saṁveśayantyā is used here in a causal sense — 'because / in that you are laying him down' — not just as a plain 'while.'
[यहाँ 'संवेशयन्त्या' में] शतृ प्रत्यय हेतु के अर्थ में है।
śatṛ is the Pāṇinian name for the active present participle in -at; a participle in the sense of cause (hetau) is licensed by Pāṇini 3.2.126 (lakṣaṇa-hetvoḥ kriyāyāḥ).
शतृ वर्तमान कृदन्त (अत्-अन्त) का पाणिनीय नाम है; हेतु के अर्थ में यह कृदन्त पाणिनि 3.2.126 (लक्षण-हेत्वोः क्रियायाः) से सिद्ध होता है।

syāt nidrā śayanaṁ svāpaḥ svapnaḥ saṁveśaḥ — निद्रा, शयन, स्वाप, स्वप्न, संवेश; iti amaraḥ — ऐसा अमरकोश।
He quotes the Amara-kośa, which lists nidrā, śayana, svāpa, svapna, and saṁveśa together — all naming sleep. This backs the gloss that saṁveśa (in saṁveśayantyā) means causing to lie down, to sleep.
'निद्रा, शयन, स्वाप, स्वप्न, संवेश'—ऐसा अमरकोश कहता है।
Why cited: cited from the Amara-kośa to prove that saṁveśa means 'sleep, lying down,' which licenses glossing saṁveśayantyā as 'making him lie down.'
क्यों उद्धृत: अमरकोश से यह उद्धरण इसलिए दिया गया कि 'संवेश' का अर्थ 'निद्रा, सोना' सिद्ध हो—जिससे 'संवेशयन्त्या' का अर्थ 'सुलाती हुई' करना ठीक ठहरता है।

On the other reading, yasya belongs to Śrī Kṛṣṇa. And ullikhadbhiḥ (of the nails) means uccaiḥ likhadbhiḥ — 'scoring high, scratching upward,' Kṛṣṇa's nail-marks of love-play.

On both readings alike, two objects have to be supplied by implication: the elephant's temple-boss (kari-kumbha, the lion reading) and the breast (stana, the Kṛṣṇa reading). They are the grammatical objects, got by ellipsis (ākṣepa) — just as in the clipped phrase 'praviśa piṇḍam' one silently fills in the missing words, reading 'enter [the house]' and '[eat] the ball.' The analogy is purely grammatical: the missing 'house/eat' there = the missing 'temple-boss/breast' here; both are objects the reader must restore. So: [his claws tear] the elephant's temple / [her] breast.
यहाँ दोनों पक्षों में हाथी का कुम्भ और स्तन कर्म रूप हैं, जो आक्षेप (अध्याहार) से प्राप्त होते हैं—जैसे 'प्रविश पिण्डम्' (पिण्ड खाने के लिए [घर में] प्रवेश कर) में 'गृहं भक्षय' के समान वाक्यार्थ जोड़ना पड़ता है, वैसे ही इन्हें जानना चाहिए।

puṣkaraṁ kari-hastāgre ity amaraḥ ||
puṣkaraṁ kari-hasta-agre'puṣkara [means] the tip of an elephant's trunk' (kari-hasta = elephant's trunk, agra = tip)'पुष्कर' हाथी की सूँड के अग्रभाग में [प्रयुक्त होता है]
iti amaraḥ— so the Amara-kośaऐसा अमरकोश [कहता है]
puṣkaraṁ kari-hastāgre — puṣkara is at the trunk-tip; iti amaraḥ — thus Amara
puṣkaraṁ kari-hasta-agre — 'पुष्कर' हाथी की सूँड के अग्र में; iti amaraḥ — ऐसा अमरकोश।
He quotes the Amara-kośa: puṣkara means kari-hastāgra, the tip of an elephant's trunk. This backs reading puṣkara-mālā as a line of trunk-tips.
'पुष्कर [शब्द] हाथी की सूँड के अग्रभाग [के अर्थ में भी है]'—ऐसा अमरकोश कहता है।
Why cited: cited from the Amara-kośa to establish that puṣkara can mean the tip of an elephant's trunk, licensing the lion-reading gloss of puṣkara-mālā as a row of trunk-tips.
क्यों उद्धृत: अमरकोश से यह उद्धरण इसलिए दिया गया कि 'पुष्कर' का अर्थ हाथी की सूँड का अग्रभाग भी सिद्ध हो—जिससे सिंह-पक्ष में 'पुष्कर-माला' का अर्थ सूँड-अग्रभागों की पंक्ति करना ठीक ठहरता है।
