vinā kṛṣṇaṁ rādhā vyathayati samantān mama mano
vinā kṛṣṇaṁwhen Kṛṣṇa is away vinā + accusative — 'apart from, in the absence of'कृष्ण के बिना
rādhāRādhā, for her partराधा
samantānfrom every side, utterly samantāt, -t → -n before the m of manoसब ओर से, सर्वथा
mama manomy mind — the thing tormented manaḥ, object of vyathayatiमेरे मन को
rādhā — Rādhā; vinā kṛṣṇam — when Kṛṣṇa is absent; mama manaḥ — my mind; samantāt — from every side; vyathayati — torments.
When Kṛṣṇa is away, it is Rādhā who torments my mind — and from every side at once.
An udāharaṇa introduced by the lead-in yathā—: a verse composed in a sakhī's voice. Jīva names what it illustrates — the sama-snigdhā sakhī, the confidante equally fond of both Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa; here she speaks while Rādhā is sunk in māna (a sulk).

vinā rādhāṁ kṛṣṇo’py ahaha sakhi māṁ viklavayati |
vinā rādhāṁwhen Rādhā is away vinā + accusative again — the mirror of L1राधा के बिना
kṛṣṇo’pyKṛṣṇa too — just the same api — 'too', pairing his case with Rādhā's in L1कृष्ण भी
ahahaah! — a cry of helpless distressअहह!
sakhiO friend vocative — the sakhī she is confiding inहे सखी (सम्बोधन)
māṁme — the one undoneमुझे
viklavayatiunnerves me, leaves me distraught causative — 'reduces me to helplessness (viklava)'विकल कर देता है (कारक — व्याकुल बना देता है)
kṛṣṇaḥ api — Kṛṣṇa too; vinā rādhām — when Rādhā is absent; ahaha sakhi — ah, O friend; mām — me; viklavayati — leaves distraught.
And without Rādhā, Kṛṣṇa too — ah, my friend — leaves me utterly undone. So each of them, when the other is gone, is unbearable to me.
The two lines are a matched pair: apart, either one torments the speaker; only together are they her joy. This sets up the wish of L3–L4.

na yatrathe birth in which I do not — na is answered only by lihyām in L4: 'in which I could NOT drink in…'
kṣaṇaduhauthe two who yield festive joy nominative dual, describing the two face-moons of L4उत्सव को दुहने वाले वे दो (मुख-चन्द्र); कर्तृवाच्य द्विवचन
yatra [janau] — in which birth; kṣaṇaduhau — the two joy-givers; na … [lihyām, L4]; sā janiḥ — that birth; me — mine; kṣaṇam api — even for a moment; mā bhūt — may it never be.
May that birth never fall to me — not for a single moment — the birth in which I cannot… (the thought runs on into the next line).
kṣaṇa-duhau, 'the two moment-milkers', points ahead to the face-moons of L4; glossed by both commentators as utsava-pūrakau, 'fillers of festive joy'.

vaktra-śaśinauthe two moon-faces — what the eyes drink in accusative dual, object of lihyāmमुख-चन्द्रों को (कर्म द्विवचन)
yatra … anayoḥ — of these two; vaktra-śaśinau — the two moon-faces; akṣṇoḥ yugena — with my pair of eyes; yugapad — both at once; na lihyām — I could not drink in.
…in which I could not, with both eyes, drink in at one glance the two moon-faces of Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa. The faces are moons and the eyes drink them in — may no life ever deny me that draught, even for a moment.
The wish caps the pair of L1–L2: since either one alone only torments her, the only bearable life is one in which she takes in both faces together, in a single look.

vāmāṁ sakhīṁ pratispoken toward a vāmā (contrary-tempered) sakhī prati + accusative — the addresseeवामा सखी के प्रति (श्रोत्री)
sama-snigdhā-vākyamthis is the speech of a sakhī equally fond of bothसम-स्निग्धा का वचन
śrī-rādhāyāṁ māninyāṁ satyāṁ — when Śrī-Rādhā is sulking; vāmāṁ sakhīṁ prati — to a contrary-tempered sakhī; sama-snigdhā-vākyam — [this is] the equally-affectionate one's speech.
Jīva sets the scene: Rādhā has slipped into māna, a sulk. A sakhī who loves Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa equally speaks these words, and she speaks them to a vāmā — a contrary-natured — confidante.
Both terms are sakhī-types of this prakaraṇa. sama-snigdhā = 'evenly affectionate', a confidante with no partiality between hero and heroine — this fixes whose voice the verse is in, since it grieves equally for Rādhā-less Kṛṣṇa and Kṛṣṇa-less Rādhā. vāmā = the 'leftward', contrary-tempered type of listener. Viśvanātha will instead give proper names; the two readings are left standing side by side, not merged.

utsava-pūrakaumeans: the two who fill one up with festive joyउत्सव को भरने वाले (दो)
kṣaṇa-duhau — the two 'moment-milkers'; utsava-pūrakau — [means] the two who brim one with festive joy.
'kṣaṇa-duhau' means the pair who brim one over with festive joy — kṣaṇa here in the sense of 'festival', and duh 'to milk, to yield', so 'joy-yielders'.
kṣaṇa carries the sense 'festival, festive delight' (not the ordinary 'moment'); with duh, 'to yield as milk', the compound reads 'those who pour out festive joy'.

Viśvanātha names the players: Rādhā is in māna; Bakulamālā, a śyāmā-sakhī, arrives unexpectedly; and it is Campakalatā who says to her, 'vinā kṛṣṇam…'. Where Jīva gave sakhī-types, Viśvanātha supplies proper names — the two framings stand as they are.
