The verse — decoded
L1definition
kṛṣṇe sva-priya-sakhyāṁ ca vahantyaḥ kam api sphuṭam |
kṛṣṇetoward Kṛṣṇa locative — sneha takes its object in the locative ('love directed at')कृष्ण के प्रति
sva-priya-sakhyāmand toward her own dear girlfriend locative, second object; sva-priya-sakhī = the sakhī's own beloved friend (the nāyikā, Rādhā)और अपनी प्रिय सखी (अर्थात् नायिका राधा) के प्रति
caand — joining the two whom she lovesऔर
vahantyaḥthe ones who carry, who bear nominative plural feminine — the subject, the sakhīs being definedजो (सखियाँ) धारण करती हैं
kam apisome indescribable, unnameable [love] accusative, qualifying sneham (L2); kam api = 'a certain something' beyond wordsकोई अनिर्वचनीय (जो शब्दों से परे है)
sphuṭamopenly showing, manifest accusative, qualifying sneham — the love is plainly visible, not hiddenस्पष्ट रूप से प्रकट, छिपा हुआ नहीं
kṛṣṇe — toward Kṛṣṇa; sva-priya-sakhyāṁ ca — and toward her own dear girlfriend; kam api sphuṭam [sneham] — some indescribable, openly-shown love; vahantyaḥ — [those] who carry [it].
This begins a new type of sakhī, the 'equal-affection' one (sama-snehā). She carries love toward two at once: toward Kṛṣṇa, and toward her own dear girlfriend, the nāyikā. That love is of a kind you cannot quite name, and it shows itself openly.
L2definition
sneham anyūnatādhikyaṁ sama-snehās tu bhūriśaḥ ||
snehamlove, affection [that she bears] accusative — the object of vahantyaḥ in L1स्नेह को (जिसे वे धारण करती हैं)
anyūnatādhikyamneither falling short nor running over — equal on both sides anyūna-tā + adhikya, qualifying sneham: no less toward one, no more toward the otherजो न किसी के प्रति कम है न किसी के प्रति अधिक
sama-snehāḥthese are the 'equal-affection' sakhīs — the type named nominative plural — sama-sneha = love held level between Kṛṣṇa and the friendसमान स्नेह वाली (सखियाँ) — कृष्ण और सखी दोनों के प्रति बराबर स्नेह रखने वाली
tuand, for their part [marking off this class]परन्तु
bhūriśaḥare very many, exist in great numbers adverbial -śaḥ = 'by the many'; this class is largeबहुत अधिक संख्या में
sneham — the love [she bears]; anyūnatādhikyam — neither less nor more, equal to both; [tāḥ] sama-snehāḥ — those are the equal-affection sakhīs; tu — and they; bhūriśaḥ — are very many.
The love is even: no less toward Kṛṣṇa than toward the friend, and no more toward one than the other. Sakhīs who hold their affection level like this are called sama-snehā, the equal-affection type. And there are a great many of them.
