In your eagerness for love-play, you lavish nothing but courtesy on your very rival.
An udāharaṇa of sakhyā upālambhaḥ, 'a girlfriend's reproach' (the lead-in reads sakhyā upālambho, yathā—), here cast as vyāja-stuti — mock-blame that is really praise, as Viśvanātha resolves it at the close of the commentary.

Padmā turned up unexpectedly, and Rādhā — ever gracious — honored her with affectionate words. Lalitā could not bear it. Once Padmā had gone and Rādhā was busy inventing some new pattern in the stringing of a necklace, Lalitā turned to her and spoke the verse 'vipakṣe…'.
Viśvanātha sets the scene: Padmā belongs to the rival camp (Candrāvalī's side) — which is why the verse opens on vipakṣa, 'the rival'. The reproach is thus staged as Lalitā's, addressed to Rādhā.

Here the two layers come apart. On the surface the verse is a scolding — too soft with rivals, too timid, dressing up for nothing. But in truth the whole thing is vyāja-stuti: praise in the guise of blame. Read the other way, every 'fault' is the mark of Rādhā's unmatched greatness in love — her graciousness, her overwhelming feeling that leaves her trembling, her endless artistry. The blame is only a mask; underneath it lays bare nothing but her supreme excellence.
vyāja-stuti is an alaṅkāra (figure of speech): censure on the surface, praise underneath — or the reverse. Viśvanātha invokes it to flip the whole reproach into its second reading.
