saumya-mūrtir upanīya nirbharaṁ
saumya-mūrtiḥyou of gentle, mild-looking form (the same word will fit both Kṛṣṇa and the soft low sun) nominative naming the addressee; it opens the two-layer śleṣa pictureहे सौम्य आकृति वाले (जिसका रूप कोमल और मनोहर है)
upanīyahaving first brought on, drawn outपास लाकर / सामने प्रस्तुत करके
nirbharaṁin full measure, abundantly (goes with rāgam in L2)पूर्ण रूप से, अत्यधिक
saumya-mūrtiḥ — you of gentle form; nirbharaṁ upanīya — having first drawn out [rāgam, L2] in full measure.
You wear a gentle, harmless form, and at first you drew out love in full flood —
An udāharaṇa illustrating harer upālambhaḥ, 'the reproach directed at Hari [Kṛṣṇa],' the theme announced in this verse's lead-in (8.120: atha tayor dvayor upālambhaḥ; tatra harer upālambhaḥ, yathā—). Spoken by Lalitā to Kṛṣṇa. The whole verse is a śleṣa: every clause reads at once of Kṛṣṇa and of the autumn (Āśvina) sun.

agrataḥin front — at the start (Kṛṣṇa), low at the horizon (the just-risen sun)सामने, आगे
śāradārka iva — like the autumn sun; agrataḥ rāgam — showing redness/passion in front (at the outset / at the horizon).
— exactly like the autumn sun, which at first shows only a soft red glow low at the horizon. The pun runs on rāga: it means both your love and that red.

O slayer of Pūtanā — you are burning my friend! Just as that pitta-breeding autumn sun scorches the one who basks in it.

śrī-rādhāyāṁ khaṇḍitāyāṁ satyām — when Rādhā has become khaṇḍitā; anunayantaṁ śrī-kṛṣṇaṁ — at Kṛṣṇa, who is coaxing her; lalitā upālabhate — Lalitā reproaches him.
Viśvanātha sets the scene. Rādhā is khaṇḍitā: she has seen the tell-tale marks that Kṛṣṇa spent the night with a rival. He arrives trying to smooth it over. Lalitā, her friend, turns on him with this rebuke.
khaṇḍitā is one of the standard nāyikā-types: the heroine whose lover comes to her bearing the marks (nail-scratches, others' ornaments, sleeplessness) of dalliance with another woman.

First the Kṛṣṇa-reading. 'Gentle-formed' means he wears a mild, innocent look precisely to make trusting souls believe him. With lies like 'Apart from you I don't know another woman, not even in a dream,' he draws out love. So on this side rāga means anurāga — affection.

pakṣe — in the alternate, sun-reading; raktimānam — rāga = redness.
Here is the pivot of the śleṣa. On the other side of the pun, the same word rāga means not love but redness — the red glow of the low autumn sun. One word, two layers: love for Kṛṣṇa, red for the sun. Viśvanātha keeps both open.

In the sun-reading, 'agrataḥ' — in front, low at the rim of the sky — points to the sun either just risen or just about to set: the red, gentle sun near the horizon.

Why must 'in front' mean the rising or setting sun? Because only a sun in that state can be low at the horizon, 'in front.' The noon sun stands overhead, not in front. So the word pins down the horizon-sun.

That autumn sun looks red and gentle, but it belongs to Āśvina: it breeds bile (pitta), and so it suddenly turns fierce. The unsuspecting man who basks in it gets hurt. Just so with Kṛṣṇa — mild at first, then scorching. That is the point of the comparison.
tīvratā, 'intensity,' is glossed by Viśvanātha as taikṣṇya, 'sharpness.' In Āyurveda the early-autumn (śarad/Āśvina) sun was held to aggravate pitta, the bile-humour, hence its hidden fierceness under a mild look.

He backs it with a health-maxim, the verse that begins 'the young sun, fresh curds…' — a list of things that look harmless yet harm.
Why cited: Adduced to prove that the young, just-risen sun (the horizon-sun of this verse) is actually harmful — the same mild-looking thing that quietly does damage.

Why cited: The closing tally of the same maxim: the young sun is one of six things that destroy life instantly — proof that the gentle-looking sun (and so Kṛṣṇa) hides a lethal fierceness.
