Rādhā happened to have a yellow cloth thrown on over her dress. Jaṭilā — dim-sighted with age, and taking herself for Rādhā's mother-in-law — sees it suddenly worn and, running true to her string of past suspicions, guesses it is Kṛṣṇa's garment. To throw her off, Rādhā's friend speaks: 'mudā kṣiptaiḥ.'

The natural word here would be dor-antarāla — 'in the crook of the arm,' where you tuck a cloth you mean to keep. But the verse says dor-mūlopari — merely 'up on top of the shoulder,' worn loose. About this cloth, which is being passed off as just a faded one, that loose wearing hints Rādhā would as soon be rid of it. So Jīva notes: to help the deception, a certain disregard for the cloth is suggested as well — she plainly does not treasure it, so it can hardly be Kṛṣṇa's.
