An udāharaṇa (illustrative verse, spoken in Kṛṣṇa's own voice). Viśvanātha frames it as the sweetness of Śrī Kṛṣṇa's speech set beside the sweet mutual speech of two equal (sama) sakhīs shown in the preceding verse (the lead-in yathā vā, 'or as'). The whole verse is a śleṣa: Mādhavī and Mālatī are at once two messenger-friends of Viśākhā and two flowering creepers (the mādhavī and mālatī vines), with Kṛṣṇa as the black bee (kṛṣṇa-bhṛṅga).

The śleṣa is sharpest in this line. 'Rising together is impossible' is literal in the flower layer — mādhavī and mālatī bloom in different seasons — and a lover's tease in the friend layer, where the two seldom come to him at once. kṛṣṇa-bhṛṅga puns on kṛṣṇa 'black' (the bee) and Kṛṣṇa the young lover.

Jīva first glosses 'mama' as 'in me.' Then he turns to the flower layer: by the poets' convention mālatī blooms in autumn and mādhavī in spring, so the two can never appear together — there is no rising in which both show at once.
This is the śleṣa's second (flower) layer. Jīva makes the two-season point that grounds the whole verse's pun: the vines' simultaneous blooming is 'impossible' by poetic rule, which is what Kṛṣṇa plays on when addressing the two friends.

In the flower layer: mādhavī opens in spring and mālatī in autumn, so a single bee cannot sip both at once. Only the poets' convention is meant here — not a claim about real botany.
The śleṣa's flower layer. Viśvanātha, like Jīva, grounds the pun in the poetic rule that the two vines bloom in different seasons; that 'impossible together' is why the bee-Kṛṣṇa cannot enjoy both at one time.

In plain worldly fact, though, both mādhavī and mālatī do bloom in spring. The verse leans only on the poetic convention — that they flower in different seasons — not on the botanical truth.
A distinction between two 'usages': kavi-maryādā, the poets' settled convention (mādhavī = spring, mālatī = autumn), which the śleṣa requires, versus loka-maryādā, ordinary observation (both actually bloom in spring). Only the first is in force here.
