tat parokṣaṁ hareḥ sakhyāḥ sakhī-dvārā yad arpaṇam |
tat parokṣaṁthat [go-between service] is the parokṣa, 'indirect, behind-the-scenes,' kindवह (दूत्य) परोक्ष है — आँखों से ओझल, प्रत्यक्ष नहीं
hareḥmeant for Hari (Kṛṣṇa) — he is the one to whom she is offered genitive; Viśvanātha reads it as the recipient and supplies the dative haraye, 'to Hari'हरि को (षष्ठी; विश्वनाथ इसे प्राप्तकर्ता मानकर 'हरये' चतुर्थी जोड़ते हैं — जिसे भेंट किया जाता है)
sakhyāḥa [girl]friend — she is the one being offered genitive of the person offeredसखी का (षष्ठी — जिस सखी को भेंट किया जाता है)
sakhī-dvārāthrough [another] sakhī serving as the go-between(दूसरी) सखी के द्वारा
yad arpaṇamwhich offering [there is]जो अर्पण / भेंट करना है
tat — that; yad arpaṇam — which offering there is; hareḥ — to Hari; sakhyāḥ — of a girlfriend; sakhī-dvārā — through a go-between sakhī; parokṣam — [is called] parokṣa, 'indirect.'
He defines the parokṣa ('indirect, behind-the-scenes') form of go-between service. It is this: one girlfriend is offered to Kṛṣṇa by the hand of another girlfriend, who acts as the messenger. The verse leaves the recipient unspoken; Viśvanātha fills it in — the offering is 'to Hari.'

vā api — or else; vyapadeśādinā — by a pretext or the like; tat-pārśve — to his side; preṣaṇādikam — the sending, and so on [is also this indirect service].
A second form of the same indirect service: sending the friend to Kṛṣṇa's side under some pretext — an errand, an excuse — and the like. The 'and so on' leaves room for similar covert arrangements.

Kalāvatī speaks (so Viśvanātha stages it). 'Know Śaśikalā — held back by an elder's word — as your own companion, your second. And so...' The sentence carries over into line 4. Viśvanātha glosses 'your second' as your girlfriend, the one who ever escorts you to the tryst.
An udāharaṇa (illustrative verse, 8.64) for the parokṣa go-between service defined in 8.63. In Viśvanātha's staging it is spoken by the sakhī Kalāvatī to the heroine Raṅgadevī. The name Śaśikalā literally means 'a digit of the moon,' playing against the moonlight (candrikā) the two friends had set out to see.

Viśvanātha unpacks line 1. The go-between service called hari-parokṣa is this: offering one girlfriend to Kṛṣṇa by the hand of another girlfriend, the messenger.

tvad-ājñā-kāriṇīm eva māṁme, who does nothing but carry out your orders eva = merely, nothing but; tvad = Kalāvatī, whom she addressesजो केवल तेरी आज्ञा का पालन करती है, ऐसी मुझको (eva = केवल, मात्र; tvad = कलावती, जिसे वह सम्बोधित करती है)

viruddha-lakṣaṇayedṛk tvad-viḍambana-lakṣaṇe tvad-akalyāṇe rādhā sadaiva jāgarti na kadāpi svapitīti saiva viśvāsa-ghātinī |
viruddha-lakṣaṇayā īdṛkread by 'contrary implication' (viruddha-lakṣaṇā), it comes out like this the line is turned against its surface senseविरुद्ध-लक्षणा से इस प्रकार (पंक्ति अपने ऊपरी अर्थ के विरुद्ध घुमा दी जाती है)
tvad-viḍambana-lakṣaṇein what amounts to your humiliationतेरी विडम्बना (उपहास) रूप विषय में (सप्तमी)
tvad-akalyāṇethat is, in your ruin, your ill-fortune restates the verse's śarmaṇi, 'welfare,' as its oppositeतेरे अकल्याण में (श्लोक के 'शर्मणि' = कल्याण को उसके उल्टे अर्थ में बदलकर)
rādhā sadā eva jāgartiRādhā is forever awakeराधा सदा ही जागती रहती है
na kadā api svapiti itishe never once sleepsकभी नहीं सोती — इस प्रकार
sā eva viśvāsa-ghātinīso it is she [Rādhā] who is the real betrayer of trust eva = precisely sheवही विश्वासघातिनी है (eva = ठीक वही)
viruddha-lakṣaṇayā īdṛk — by contrary implication it reads thus; tvad-viḍambana-lakṣaṇe tvad-akalyāṇe — in your humiliation, i.e. your ruin; rādhā sadā eva jāgarti — Rādhā is ever awake; na kadā api svapiti — she never sleeps; iti sā eva viśvāsa-ghātinī — so it is she who is the betrayer of trust.
Viśvanātha now exposes the barb hidden in the line. By 'contrary implication' (viruddha-lakṣaṇā) the same words flip: 'over your welfare' becomes 'over your ruin.' Read that way it says — Rādhā is forever awake plotting your downfall, she never sleeps; so it is Rādhā herself who is the real betrayer of trust. This is the poet's double edge, not Viśvanātha's own verdict on Rādhā.
viruddha-lakṣaṇā is a figure in which a phrase is understood against its literal sense. On the surface, 'over your welfare (śarmaṇi) Rādhā stays awake' reassures; turned by contrary implication it reads 'over your undoing Rādhā stays awake,' which makes Rādhā — not the speaker — the betrayer. Viśvanātha surfaces the poet's wit; he is not asserting it as fact.

ity arthaḥthat is the [ironic] senseऐसा अर्थ है
tvad-vairiṇī — your enemy; ity arthaḥ — that is the [ironic] sense.
In short, on that reading, Rādhā comes out as 'your rival, your enemy.'

And the unspoken feeling behind the words: 'whatever Rādhā may be, I myself am only doing this because you told me to.' Kalāvatī quietly sets herself apart from Rādhā.

'Follow right behind these bees, O fair-browed one.' Viśvanātha catches the pun on subhru: it also tells her 'smooth your brow — stop frowning; your good luck is now coming to fruit.' The anxious frown should give way.

And the outcome, Viśvanātha adds: overhearing the two friends' teasing quarrel, Kṛṣṇa gathered that Raṅgadevī was the heroine, stepped out of the bower, took Raṅgadevī to himself, and delighted Kalāvatī the go-between. That is how the scene closes.

Finally Viśvanātha states why the illustrative verse is here at all. There is a tempting rule: among a group's sakhīs, any one appointed to a single-minded duty in some sphere must be the 'group-leader' (yūtha-mukhyā) of that sphere. This verse's 'ruddhāṁ viddhi...' is set down precisely to ward off that over-hasty conclusion — a confidential appointment does not, by itself, crown a sakhī the group-leader.
The yūtha-mukhyā ('group-leader') rule alluded to here was stated earlier in the chapter (UN 8.54). Viśvanātha reads this illustrative verse as included to block a naive over-extension of it: being assigned one confidential task does not automatically make a sakhī the leader of the whole group.
