sva-paty-āderof one's own husband and the like gen.; the target of the ākṣepaअपने पति आदि की — जिसकी निन्दा (आक्षेप) की जाती है
govindādeḥof Govinda and the like gen.; the object of the praśaṁsā that followsगोविन्द आदि की — जिसकी प्रशंसा आगे की जाती है
praśaṁsayāby praising instr. of means; the second deviceप्रशंसा के द्वारा — यह दूसरा साधन है
sva-paty-āder ākṣepeṇa — by disparaging one's own husband and the like; govindādeḥ praśaṁsayā — by praising Govinda and the like.
This is the lakṣaṇa, the definition. The 'purpose-rooted' approach works, first, by running down one's own husband and such, and, second, by praising Govinda and such.
The topic is set by the lead-in atha artha-mūlam — 'now, the purpose-rooted [means].' artha-mūla names the way a message is grounded (mūla) in a stated aim or pretext (artha): the speaker conveys her real wish indirectly, through blame, praise, or extolling.

na hi vahatifor [my mind] carries none hi = 'for, indeed,' giving the reason; verb whose subject cetaḥ and object ruciṁ come in L4क्योंकि (वह) निश्चय ही धारण नहीं करता — इसका कर्ता 'चित्त' और कर्म 'रुचि' आगे L4 में आते हैं
ghora-prakṛtayetoward [the husband] of terrible nature dat.; goes with patye in L4 — the one the liking would be directed toघोर स्वभाव वाले (उस पति) के प्रति — यह आगे L4 के 'पति' से जुड़ता है
ghora-prakṛtaye [patye] — toward the terrible-natured husband; vidhātur daurātmyāt — because of the Creator's malice; cetaḥ ruciṁ na hi vahati — the mind carries no liking (verb completed in L4).
The illustrative verse begins. The girl: 'It is the Creator's own malice that my mind carries no liking for a husband of such terrible nature.' The sentence runs on into the next line.
An udāharaṇa — an illustrative verse in the speaker's own voice — for artha-mūlam, the manifold purpose-rooted means defined just above in 7.91. It illustrates two of the three devices at once: ākṣepa, the disparaging of the husband (ghora-prakṛti, vidhātur daurātmya), and vaiśiṣṭya, the dwelling on the special power of a place (the Yamunā-bank forest, below).

'…my mind carries no liking for my husband. And this ill-starred body of mine, meanwhile, gleams and plays with the radiance of youth.' The two facts sit side by side: no attraction where duty points, and a body brimming with beauty.

praharate, 'strikes a blow,' is the word Jīva and Viśvanātha both pivot on: on the surface the forest torments her; beneath, it 'strikes' her heart toward the one who sports there. See their comments below.

yamī is the Yamunā, personified as the sister of Yama (yama-bhaginī, so Viśvanātha below). The river-name carries the etymology into the verse's undertone of danger.

Jīva sets the scene: these are the words of a girl already seized by pūrva-rāga — love kindled before she has ever met its object. He does not name her.
pūrva-rāga (here pūrva-anurāga) is the rasa-śāstra term for love that arises before the lovers meet, from hearing or seeing a likeness. Jīva keeps the speaker anonymous; Viśvanātha, below, names her Rādhā.

Jīva reads the opening as pure damage-control. She says 'the Creator gave me an awful husband, so of course I feel nothing for him' — but only because she foresees her friend objecting, and wants to head that off. This much is a shield, not the real point.

Now the 'cursed body' line. Jīva unpacks her thought: 'Had my body been unlovely, I could have made my peace and sat still, unwanted. But the opposite is true — it blazes with youth.' So the beauty she seems to lament is exactly what makes sitting still impossible.

Here Jīva opens the hidden layer. 'Strikes' does not mean the forest merely hurts her — it pounds on her heart to pull her toward a certain hero who is himself famous, in that very forest, as a dealer of blows. The pun on praharate / prahāritva is the hinge: the striking forest points to the striking lover. Jīva keeps the hero unnamed — 'some' hero.

The whole complaint was a coded request for the go-between to arrange the meeting.

Viśvanātha fixes the characters: the speaker in prior love is Śrī Rādhā, and the friend she turns to is Viśākhā. (So Viśvanātha; Jīva above left both unnamed.)

Viśvanātha reads the opening as a defense speech. 'What did I ever do wrong, to be handed a husband of such terrible nature? The fault is the Creator's, not mine — so if my heart holds no liking for him, how is that my doing?' Like Jīva, he says this whole protest is aimed only at winning the friend over.
The printed yad-aghora- is read here as yad ghora-, matching the mūla's ghora-prakṛti (L3) and required by tasyaiva daurātmyam, 'that is the Creator's malice' — the complaint is precisely that the husband is fierce.

But the real truth, says Viśvanātha, undercuts the whole defense: even if the Creator had given her the loveliest husband imaginable, she still would have felt nothing for him. The husband's terrible nature was never the true cause.

Viśvanātha unfolds the forest-blow. As it enters her sight, the bank-forest of the Yamunā — 'yamī,' the sister of Yama — strikes at her, and the blow is the kindling of Kandarpa's fire, the fire of desire. That fierce, kindling stroke is why the verse calls it viṣamam, 'merciless.'

yamī is explained as yama-bhaginī, the sister of Yama — the Yamunā. Kandarpa is the god of love; kandarpa-agni, 'the fire of Kandarpa,' is the burning of desire the forest sets alight.

Viśvanātha names the two layers outright. Beneath 'why give me no advice?' runs the real message (dhvani): 'Pour out a farewell offering over family-dharma, modesty, and reputation — let them all go — and bring Śrī Kṛṣṇa here at once, if you want to save my life.' The lament for counsel was a coded order to the go-between.
jalāñjali-dāna, offering a palmful of water, is the funerary gesture of final leave-taking; to 'give jalāñjali' to dharma, modesty, and repute is to renounce them completely.
