Kṛṣṇa's mind did not settle even on the thrilling rasa of the bulls locked in their passionate fight — delightful a sight as that was.
रति रूपी युद्ध लड़ने वाले उन बैलों की लड़ाई का रस, यद्यपि मन को भाने वाला था, फिर भी उसकी बुद्धि उस पर नहीं टिकी।
An udāharaṇa (illustrative verse) for netrānta-bhrama, 'the roving of the corner of the eye,' the signal named in this unit's lead-in (netrānta-bhramaḥ—). Spoken by Vṛndā (so Viśvanātha, s1).

He cast his eyes on you — and here alone he froze, standing dark and stock-still like a tamāla tree.
तुझ पर दृष्टि डालते ही वह यहाँ केवल तमाल वृक्ष के समान (जड़ और स्थिर) हो गया।
The tamāla is a dark-barked tree Kṛṣṇa is often likened to; the point of the simile here is his becoming rooted and motionless, transfixed the instant his gaze lands on her.
तमाल एक गहरी छाल वाला वृक्ष है, जिसकी उपमा प्रायः कृष्ण को दी जाती है; यहाँ उपमा का तात्पर्य यह है कि दृष्टि पड़ते ही वह जड़-सा, अचल और स्तम्भित हो गया।

anuḍuhāṁ vṛṣāṇām |
anuḍuhāṁ[the word ḍuhām means] anaḍuh — oxen, bulls genitive plural of anaḍuhअनडुह् (बैलों) की
vṛṣāṇāmthat is, of the bullsवृषभों की, अर्थात् बैलों की
anaḍuhām vṛṣāṇām — [ḍuhām =] of the bulls.
anuḍuhāṁ — अनडुह् (बैलों) की; vṛṣāṇām — वृषभों की
Viśvanātha unpacks 'ḍuhām': it stands for anaḍuh, bulls — so 'rati-raṇa-ḍuhām' is the passionately fighting bulls.
'ḍuhām' का अर्थ है अनडुह् (बैल), अर्थात् वृषभों की।
ḍuh is the poetic short stem of anaḍuh, 'draught-ox, bull'; Viśvanātha supplies the full word so the genitive plural rati-raṇa-ḍuhām reads as 'of the bulls.'
'ḍuh' शब्द 'anaḍuh' — जुते हुए बैल — का काव्यगत लघु रूप है; विश्वनाथ पूरा शब्द जोड़ते हैं जिससे षष्ठी बहुवचन 'rati-raṇa-ḍuhām' का अर्थ 'बैलों का' स्पष्ट हो जाए।

netrasyaof the eye genitiveनेत्र का
mudraṇa-vikāsau[means] its closing and its widening nominative dual — the two are what 'making it dance' amounts toमुँदना और खुलना (ये दोनों)
pūrvavatjust as in the earlier verse -vat = 'as before,' pointing back to a prior treatmentपहले की भाँति
naṭayasi iti — the word 'you set it dancing'; netrasya mudraṇa-vikāsau — the eye's closing and widening; lajjā-autsukyābhyām — out of shyness and eagerness; pūrvavat — just as before.
naṭayasi iti — 'नटयसि' के विषय में; lajjā-autsukyābhyām — लज्जा और उत्सुकता के कारण; netrasya — नेत्र का; mudraṇa-vikāsau — मुँदना और खुलना; pūrvavat — पूर्ववत्
'Naṭayasi,' 'you set it dancing,' means the eye's closing and opening — driven by shyness and eagerness at once — exactly as explained in the earlier verse.
'नटयसि' का अर्थ — लज्जा और उत्सुकता, इन दोनों भावों के कारण नेत्र का मुँदना और खुलना, पहले की भाँति।
The pairing of closing (lajjā, shyness) and widening (autsukya, eagerness) is what makes the eye-corner seem to 'dance'; Viśvanātha refers back (pūrvavat) to where this was set out before.
लज्जा (संकोच) से नेत्र का मुँदना और उत्सुकता से उसका खुलना — इन दोनों का मेल ही नेत्र-कोर को मानो 'नचता' हुआ दिखाता है; विश्वनाथ 'पूर्ववत्' कहकर उस पूर्व-विवेचन की ओर संकेत करते हैं जहाँ यह बात पहले कही जा चुकी है।

ayam mām bhāva-vaivaśyena samyak na paśyati paśyati vā — 'is he too overcome with feeling to see me clearly, or does he see me?'; iti vicāreṇa — by pondering thus; vikāsita-bhāgaḥ eva — the widening portion alone; bhramiḥ — is the bhrami.
ayam — यह नायक; mām — मुझे; bhāva-vaivaśyena — भाव की विवशता के कारण; samyak na paśyati — भली भाँति नहीं देखता; paśyati vā — अथवा देखता है; iti vicāreṇa — इस विचार के द्वारा; vikāsita-bhāgaḥ eva — खुला हुआ भाग ही; bhramiḥ — भ्रम है
Now Viśvanātha pins down what the 'roving' (bhrami) actually is. The girl wonders: 'Is he so overwhelmed with feeling that he can't quite see me — or does he see me?' Out of that wondering the eye widens. It is precisely this widening part, not the closing, that is the netrānta-bhrama.
'यह भाव की विवशता के कारण मुझे भली भाँति देखता है या नहीं?' — इस विचार से नेत्र का जो खुला हुआ भाग है, वही (मुँदा हुआ भाग नहीं) 'भ्रम' है।
