varākṣīthe girl with lovely eyes vara-akṣī, 'having beautiful eyes'सुन्दर नेत्रों वाली
iyaṁ varākṣī — this lovely-eyed girl; satīnāṁ pravarā — is the foremost of all chaste women.
This lovely-eyed girl is the best of all virtuous women.
An udāharaṇa illustrating aṅguli-sphoṭana — the cracking of the [messenger's] finger-joints — the act the lead-in opens with, 'tatra aṅguli-sphoṭanam'. Viśvanātha (s1) names the speaker as Kṛṣṇa, addressing his friend Subala; the girl praised is left unnamed by the included commentators.

mayi klamāḍhyewhile I lay heavy with weariness locative absolute; klama-āḍhya = 'filled with love-weariness'जब मैं प्रेम-श्रम से भरा पड़ा था
mayi klama-āḍhye — while I lay overcome with weariness; kathaṁ nu labhyā iti — [I brooded,] 'how can she ever be won?'
'How could I ever win her?' — so I brooded, worn down with love-weariness.
The whole quoted thought of L1–L2 is what Kṛṣṇa was turning over 'while I lay weary' (mayi klamāḍhye) — the setting for Viśākhā's gesture reported in L3.

śākhāvalī mad-vyasanena sārdham ||
śākhāvalīthe whole row of her fingers śākhā-āvalī, 'row of branches'; the verb viśākhayā asphoṭyata, 'Viśākhā cracked', stands in the lead-in, not this lineशाखाओं की पंक्ति (अर्थात् अंगुलियों की पंक्ति)

[viśākhayā asphoṭyata] śākhāvalī — [Viśākhā cracked] the row of her fingers; mad-vyasanena sārdham — along with my distress.
And she cracked the whole row of her fingers — together with my distress.
The finger-cracking is the aṅguli-sphoṭana this verse illustrates. 'Branch' (śākhā) puns on the tree-branch and the finger: the hand is the 'five-branched' (pañca-śākha) thing, its fingers its branches — unpacked by Viśvanātha at s2–s3.

śrī-kṛṣṇaḥ subalaṁ prati āha — Śrī Kṛṣṇa speaks to Subala; iyam iti — namely the verse beginning 'iyam'.
Śrī Kṛṣṇa says this to his friend Subala — the verse that begins 'iyam'.
So Viśvanātha fixes the frame: it is Kṛṣṇa reporting the incident to his cowherd friend Subala.

'Pañca-śākha', 'śaya', and 'pāṇi' are all words for the hand — so the Amara-kośa.
Why cited: Cited from the Amara-kośa to prove that pañca-śākha ('five-branched') is a standard word for the hand — the key that unlocks the verse's metaphor.
Amara = the Amara-kośa, the classic Sanskrit synonym-lexicon of Amarasiṁha, cited here as the authority for word-meanings.
'अमर' से तात्पर्य अमरकोश से है — अमरसिंह का प्रसिद्ध संस्कृत पर्यायवाची कोश, जिसे यहाँ शब्दार्थ के प्रमाण के रूप में उद्धृत किया गया है।

śākhās tad-aṅgulyaḥ ||
śākhāḥthe 'branches' (śākhā)शाखाएँ
tad-aṅgulyaḥare the fingers of that [hand] tad = of the pañca-śākha, the hand just namedउस (पंच-शाख हाथ) की अंगुलियाँ
śākhāḥ tad-aṅgulyaḥ — the 'branches' are that hand's fingers.
And the 'branches' (śākhā) are the fingers of the hand. So the verse's 'row of branches of the five-branched' just means the row of fingers on the hand.
Finishes the metaphor begun at s2: the hand is 'five-branched' (pañca-śākha), so its fingers are its 'branches' — which is why śākhāvalī in L3 is the row of fingers.
