asūryampaśyāpi priya-sahacarī-premabhir ahaṁ
asūryampaśyā apithough I am an asūryampaśyā — a woman kept so cloistered she never even sees the sun api = 'even/though', conceding her seclusion; asūryampaśyā is a fixed grammatical form for a strictly guarded (royal) womanयद्यपि मैं असूर्यम्पश्या (ऐसी अति-गुप्त रखी कुलवधू जिस पर सूर्य तक की दृष्टि न पड़े) हूँ, फिर भी
priya-sahacarī-premabhiḥout of the loves I bear for my dear friend instrumental of cause; premabhiḥ plural = the many bonds of affectionअपनी प्रिय सखी के प्रेम के अनेक बन्धनों के कारण
ahaṁI [have come]मैं
asūryampaśyā api ahaṁ — though a cloistered woman, I; priya-sahacarī-premabhiḥ — out of love for my dear friend [have come].
asūryampaśyā api — असूर्यम्पश्या होकर भी; priya-sahacarī-premabhiḥ — प्रिय सखी के प्रेम-बन्धनों के कारण; ahaṁ — मैं
Though I am a woman so guarded I never even see the sun, out of love for my dear friend I have come. She names her own seclusion first — that is how much this errand cost her.
मैं ऐसी कुलवधू हूँ जिस पर सूर्य की भी दृष्टि नहीं पड़ती; फिर भी अपनी प्रिय सखी के प्रेम के अनेक बन्धनों में बँधकर मैं (तेरे पास चली आई)।
An udāharaṇa of the arthottha dūtī (lead-in: 'arthottho, yathā') — the self-appointed go-between whose own longing surfaces through the meaning of her plea. She speaks as messenger for her friend, but every line reveals that she herself wants nearness to Kṛṣṇa. 'asūryampaśyā' is the technical form (Pāṇini) for a woman kept so secluded the sun never falls on her — she claims a princess's guarded rank.

dūtyaṁ vidadhatīhere I am acting as the go-between present participle, feminine — she is in the very act of doing the errandदूती का कार्य करती हुई
he madhumathana — O Kṛṣṇa; tava abhyarṇaṁ labdhvā — having reached your presence; dūtyaṁ vidadhatī — I am here doing messenger-duty.
tava abhyarṇaṁ labdhvā — तेरा सामीप्य पाकर; madhumathana — हे मधुमथन; dūtyaṁ vidadhatī — दूती का काम करती हुई
Having managed to reach you, O Madhusūdana, here I am playing the go-between. She stresses the effort — 'I got all the way here' — foregrounding her own presence beside him.
हे मधुमथन! तेरे पास तक पहुँच पाना ही (मुझ बन्दिनी के लिए) कठिन था; उसे पाकर अब मैं दूती का कार्य कर रही हूँ।

Quickly, hear her love — before the thing happens that I am about to describe. The 'before' hangs open here and is completed in the next line. And notice the boast tucked inside: something takes her face for the moon.
शीघ्र ही उस (सखी) के स्नेह को सुन ले — इससे पहले कि (यह चकोर) मेरे मुख को चन्द्रमा समझ बैठे।

asūryampaśyā iti anena — by 'asūryampaśyā'; svasya durlabha-darśanatvaṁ rāja-kanyātvaṁ ca [dyotitam] — her being rarely seen and her royal birth are signalled.
asūryampaśya iti anena — 'असूर्यम्पश्या' इस शब्द से; svasya durlabha-darśanatvaṁ — अपने दर्शन का दुर्लभ होना; rāja-kanyātvaṁ ca — और राजकन्या होना
With the one word 'asūryampaśyā', Viśvanātha says, she conveys two things: that she is a woman scarcely ever seen, and that she is a princess.
'असूर्यम्पश्या' शब्द से (नायिका ने) यह जताया कि उसका दर्शन दुर्लभ है और वह राजकन्या है।

Now Viśvanātha supplies Kṛṣṇa's unspoken reply: 'Your friend's love can wait — first let me see to protecting you. If you stand out here in the open, this wretched cakora won't leave you alone.' Kṛṣṇa takes exactly the bait she offered.
(कृष्ण कहते हैं—) 'और उस सखी के स्नेह की बात तो बाद में सुनूँगा; पहले तेरी ही रक्षा का उपाय सोचता हूँ। यदि तू यहाँ बाहर ही खड़ी रही, तो यह दुष्ट चकोर तुझे नहीं छोड़ेगा।'

So I myself will take you, frightened as you are, hide you against my chest, wait somewhere a moment, and fool the cakora. Her love? I'll hear that too.' Viśvanātha marks all this as Kṛṣṇa's implied speech — the errand's real payoff is the embrace, the friend's message an afterthought.
'यह पर्वत की गुफा यहीं घोर अन्धकार से भरी है; तू अकेली स्त्री इसमें घुसते डरती है। इसलिए तुझ अत्यन्त भयभीत को मैं ही अपने वक्षःस्थल में छिपाकर, कहीं क्षण-भर ठहरकर, उस चकोर को छका दूँगा — और साथ ही उस सखी के स्नेह की बात भी सुन लूँगा।' — यह श्रीकृष्ण का कथन समझना चाहिए।

'My friends have gone home; I'm still lugging this brimful, enormous pot and have fallen behind. O son of Nanda, if you touch me now that I'm alone, I'll give up this life on the spot, right in front of you!' She threatens self-harm — the helpless-woman pretext — but the word 'jīvana' also means the water in her pot, which sets up Kṛṣṇa's move.
सखियाँ तो घर चली गईं, और मैं यह अत्यन्त बड़ा भरा घड़ा उठाए पीछे रह गई हूँ। हे नन्दनन्दन! यदि तू मुझ अकेली को छू लेगा, तो मैं यह जीवन (=प्राण / जल) तेरे सामने ही सहसा छोड़ दूँगी।
Why cited: Adduced to illustrate the dainya (playing-helpless) pretext, taken the śabda way — the self-revealing rides on the double sense of the word jīvana (life / water).
क्यों उद्धृत: दीनता (असहाय बनने) के बहाने का उदाहरण, शब्द-पक्ष से लिया गया — आत्म-प्रकाशन 'जीवन' शब्द के दुहरे अर्थ (प्राण / जल) पर टिका है।

Viśvanātha spells out the pun: 'jīvana' means 'life', and in its second reading 'water'. Both senses are meant together — that is the śleṣa the whole verse pivots on.

Kṛṣṇa's imagined comeback plays the same pun back at her: 'Alas, why should you give up your jīvana? Let me be the one to let it go.' And, so saying, he lifts the pot off her head and tips out the water. He answers a threat about 'life' by disposing of the 'water' — the śleṣa is the whole joke.

क्यों उद्धृत: दीनता के बहाने का उदाहरण, अर्थ-पक्ष से लिया गया — राधा का असहाय 'मुझे जाने दो' अपने भाव-प्रवाह से उलटा ही अभिप्राय बता देता है; अन्त का आशीर्वाद इसे ऊपर के शब्द-पक्ष उदाहरण के साथ जोड़ देता है।

iti — thus; śabda-artham eva vācika-udāharaṇa-dvayaṁ jñeyam — this pair of spoken examples is to be taken as [covering] the word-side and the meaning-side.
iti — इस प्रकार; śabda-artham eva — शब्द और अर्थ के आधार पर ही; vācika-udāharaṇa-dvayaṁ — वाचिक उदाहरणों का यह युगल; jñeyam — समझना चाहिए
So these two verses are to be taken together as the pair of spoken (vācika) examples — the first (padyā 309) working through the word, on the jīvana pun; the second (padyā 250) working through the meaning, on Rādhā's self-reversing plea.
इस प्रकार (ये) वाचिक दूती के दो उदाहरण समझने चाहिए — एक शब्द (श्लेष) पर आधारित और दूसरा अर्थ पर।
