Just once, at a single draught, she drank the fresh nectar of the flute's sound, cupping her ears like palms to catch it.
This whole verse is a śleṣa (double meaning). One reading is medical — an illness, its burning fever, a lime-paste cure, the divine physician; the other is erotic — love-sickness, the burning of desire, and Kṛṣṇa alone as its cure. The commentators split the four key words (sudhā, madālī, sadāham, gada) along both lines at once. It is an udāharaṇa of the parārtha-yācñayā śabda-utthā dūtī — the go-between whose errand arises in words, as a request voiced on another's behalf (lead-in: parārtha-yācñayā śabdottha).

My friend is reeling, her wits turned shallow by a rush of giddy lightness. In the other reading madālī is not 'my friend' at all but 'a flood of intoxication' — and then the line folds onto the speaker herself.

Jīva glosses sudhā two ways: as nectar — the flute-song's sweetness — and, in the second reading, as burnt-conch lime-powder, a medicinal paste. The one word carries both the sweet layer and the medical layer.

Jīva splits madālī two ways. As mad-ālī it is 'my friend'. In the second reading it is mada-śreṇī, 'a flood of intoxication' — no longer a person but a state, which lets the line describe the speaker herself.

Jīva reads sadāham two ways too. Split sadā-aham it is 'always I'. Split sa-dāham it is 'accompanied by burning' — describing the disease as a burning fever. The burning is the pivot into the love-reading.

Viśvanātha reads sadāham as sa-dāham, an adjective of the disease: the malady that 'comes with burning'. Here the split attaches the burning to the illness itself.

Viśvanātha supplies Kṛṣṇa's unspoken reply. 'Just as your own limbs are kept safe by an armor of mantra, so, once her face and eyes and the rest are anointed with a certain special salve, her burning — outside and inside — will subside step by step.' Two-layered as ever: on the surface a doctor's prescription of mantra-armor and ointment; underneath, Kṛṣṇa answering the love-request, the 'inner burning' being desire. This reply, he says, is to be understood, since the verse leaves it unspoken.
The reply preserves the medical/erotic double sense: bahir-dāha is the outer fever, antar-dāha the inner fever of longing; the mantra-armor and salve are prescription on one layer and intimacy on the other.
