itaḥ iha mayi |
itaḥthe verse's word itaḥ ('hence, from here') the lemma being glossed'इतः' (जिसका अर्थ किया जा रहा है)
ihameans 'here'यहाँ
mayiupon me locative — so itaḥ is read as 'here, at me,' not 'from here'मुझ पर (सप्तमी) — अतः 'इतः' का अर्थ 'यहाँ, मुझ पर', न कि 'यहाँ से'
itaḥ — [the word] itaḥ; iha mayi — [means] 'here, upon me.'
itaḥ — 'इतः'; iha — यहाँ; mayi — मुझ पर (सप्तमी)
Viśvanātha glosses the verse's 'itaḥ.' Though it usually means 'from here,' here he takes it as 'iha mayi' — 'right here, upon me.' The sidelong glances are being cast at the speaker herself.
'इतः' का अर्थ है 'यहाँ, मुझ पर' (न कि 'यहाँ से')।

mṛgī-mālāpīty anena mama sakhyo’py atra na santīti svacchandam ekākinīṁ prāptāṁ māṁ yathecchasi tathā kurv iti bhāvaḥ |
mṛgī-mālāpīty anenaby this phrase 'even the herd of does' instrumental — 'by means of this phrase''मृगी-मालापि' इस पद के द्वारा (तृतीया)
mama sakhyo’py atra na santītishe hints the sense: 'even my girlfriends are not here''मेरी सखियाँ भी यहाँ नहीं हैं' — ऐसा (आशय)
svacchandamfreely, of my own accord adverbस्वच्छन्दतापूर्वक (क्रियाविशेषण)
ekākinīṁ prāptāṁ māṁme, who have come here all alone accusatives in agreement — 'me, arrived, solitary'अकेली आई हुई मुझको (सब कर्म-कारक में समान)
yathecchasi tathā kuru'do with me exactly as you wish'जैसा चाहो वैसा करो
iti bhāvaḥ— such is the hidden import (bhāva)यह अभिप्राय है
mṛgī-mālā api iti anena — by the phrase 'even the herd of does'; mama sakhyaḥ api atra na santi iti — [the sense] 'even my friends are not here'; svacchandam ekākinīṁ prāptāṁ mām — me, come here freely and alone; yathā icchasi tathā kuru iti bhāvaḥ — 'do as you wish' — that is the import.
mṛgī-mālāpi iti anena — 'मृगी-मालापि' इस पद से; mama sakhyaḥ api atra na santi iti — 'मेरी सखियाँ भी यहाँ नहीं हैं' यह; svacchandam ekākinīṁ prāptāṁ māṁ — स्वच्छन्द होकर अकेली आई हुई मुझको; yathecchasi tathā kuru — जैसा चाहो वैसा करो; iti bhāvaḥ — यह अभिप्राय
Now Viśvanātha reads the hidden message in 'even the herd of does.' By it she is really saying, 'even my girlfriends aren't here.' The concealed sense: 'I have come to this spot freely and all alone — so do with me whatever you please.' That, he says, is the real bhāva beneath the boast. This buried invitation is the arthottha at work.
'मृगी-मालापि' इस पद के द्वारा (श्यामा का) यह छिपा भाव है — 'मेरी सखियाँ भी यहाँ नहीं हैं; स्वच्छन्द होकर अकेली आई हुई मुझको जैसा चाहो वैसा करो।'

atra mṛgī-mālety ādi-śabdānāṁ parivṛtti-sahatvāt tad-arthānāṁ ca parivṛtya sahatvād artha-bhavatvaṁ jñeyam ||
atrahere, in this verseयहाँ (इस पद्य में)
mṛgī-mālety ādi-śabdānāṁof the words 'mṛgī-mālā' and the like genitive governed by sahatvāt'मृगी-माला' आदि शब्दों का (षष्ठी, सहत्वात् से सम्बद्ध)
parivṛtti-sahatvātbecause they can be turned around and swapped ablative of cause; parivṛtti = inversion/substitutionक्योंकि वे परिवृत्ति (उलट-फेर, प्रतिस्थापन) को सह लेते हैं (पञ्चमी, हेतु)
tad-arthānāṁ caand of their meanings too genitive; ca extends the point from the words to their sensesऔर उन शब्दों के अर्थों का भी ('च' शब्दों से अर्थों तक बात बढ़ाता है)
parivṛtya sahatvātbecause these too, once turned around, still hold good ablative of cause; parivṛtya = gerund 'having turned around'क्योंकि (अर्थ) पलटकर भी संगत बने रहते हैं (पञ्चमी, हेतु; परिवृत्य = 'उलटकर')
artha-bhavatvaṁthat it is artha-bhava — a message born from [indirect] sense accusative, object of jñeyamअर्थ से उत्पन्न होना, अर्थोत्थत्व (ज्ञेय का कर्म)
jñeyamshould be understoodजानना चाहिए
atra — here; mṛgī-mālā iti ādi-śabdānāṁ parivṛtti-sahatvāt — because the words 'mṛgī-mālā' etc. admit of inversion; tad-arthānāṁ ca parivṛtya sahatvāt — and because their meanings too hold when turned around; artha-bhavatvaṁ jñeyam — one should know this to be artha-bhava.
atra — यहाँ; mṛgī-mālā iti ādi-śabdānāṁ parivṛtti-sahatvāt — 'मृगी-माला' आदि शब्द परिवृत्ति सह लेते हैं, इस कारण; tad-arthānāṁ ca parivṛtya sahatvāt — और उनके अर्थ भी पलटकर संगत रहते हैं, इस कारण; artha-bhavatvaṁ jñeyam — अर्थोत्थत्व जानना चाहिए
Finally Viśvanātha gives the technical reason this counts as arthottha. The words here — 'mṛgī-mālā' and the rest — can be turned around and swapped (parivṛtti), and their meanings can be turned around just as readily. Because both the words and their senses bear this inversion, one should recognize the message as artha-bhava — born from an indirect sense rather than said outright. That is what makes the verse an example of the arthottha type.
यहाँ 'मृगी-माला' आदि शब्द परिवृत्ति (उलट-फेर) को सह लेते हैं, और उनके अर्थ भी पलटकर संगत बने रहते हैं — इसी कारण (इस सन्देश का) अर्थोत्थत्व (अर्थ से उत्पन्न होना) समझना चाहिए।
parivṛtti: 'turning around, substitution, inversion' — a word or sense that can be flipped into or swapped for another. Because the boast's words and their meanings can each be 'turned' into their concealed invitation, the message qualifies as arthottha — arising from artha (indirect meaning) rather than from the plain words.
