bhujaṅgāgraṇīḥthe foremost of snakes — and so the prince of rogue-lovers śleṣa: bhujaṅga = snake / paramour (so Viśvanātha, s4)सर्पों में अग्रणी / कामुकों में श्रेष्ठ
paśya — look!; kṛṣṇaḥ bhujaṅgāgraṇīḥ — Kṛṣṇa, chief of snakes (and of rogues); kṣauṇī-dharāt — from the hill; purataḥ — right before us; upaiti — is coming this way.
Look! Kṛṣṇa is coming down the hill, straight toward us. She calls him the chief of snakes — but bhujaṅga means both a snake and a seductive rogue. So under the snake-talk she is really warning about Kṛṣṇa the charmer.
The opening line of an udāharaṇa illustrating adhika-prakharā, the 'extra-fierce' variety of the ill-hearted (durhṛt) group-leader gopī (so Viśvanātha's closing note, s11). A bold prakharā warns a timid friend as Kṛṣṇa nears. The whole verse runs on a śleṣa: Kṛṣṇa as a snake / a seductive rogue, and the speaker as a snake-charmer / a teacher of the love-arts.

Quick — you and your timid friends, get away from here. She scolds her: 'O you who don't know the spell!' Mantra puns two ways — the charmer's spell and plain good counsel. The timid friend has neither, so she must flee.
