iti keśi-mathanam uradamana-kaṁsaha ity-ādi-nāmabhiḥso, by names such as 'Keśi-mathana' (Keśī-killer), 'Kaṁsaha' (Kaṁsa-killer), and the rest the middle name 'uradamana' is uncertain/corrupt in the source; kaṁsaha = kaṁsa-hanअतः 'केशि-मथन', 'उरदमन', 'कंसह' (कंस-हन्ता) इत्यादि नामों से
vraja-stha-janaiḥ sarvadā eva saḥ ucyatethe people of Vraja call him at all times sarvadā eva = 'always, at every time' — even before the deeds were doneव्रजवासी जन उन्हें सदा ही (इन नामों से) पुकारते हैं
'bahūni santi nāmāni' ity-ādinā — by the passage 'there are many names…'; nāma-karaṇa-kāla eva gargeṇa — at the naming rite itself, by Garga; tatra (trai)kālikāni eva nāmāni — names spanning all times; śrī-vraja-rājaṁ prati uktāni — were told to Nanda; iti — therefore; keśi-mathanam uradamana-kaṁsaha ity-ādi-nāmabhiḥ — by names like 'Keśi-mathana,' 'Kaṁsaha,' etc.; vraja-stha-janaiḥ sarvadā eva saḥ ucyate — the Vraja people always call him.
The reason: as the passage 'there are many names…' shows, at the naming ceremony itself Garga told Nanda names that reach across all times — past, present, and future deeds alike. So names like 'Keśi-mathana' and 'Kaṁsaha' were used by the people of Vraja at every time, even before those deeds happened. The epithet therefore fixes no date, and the worry falls away.
Garga's naming of the child (the 'bahūni santi nāmāni' passage) is invoked to show the names were prophetic — current from the naming rite on — so 'Keśī-killer' cannot pin the scene to a moment after the killing. This is the opposite move from Jīva, who instead dates the scene to the post-Dvārakā reunion; the two commentators are not to be merged.

That forwardness is the mark of a madhyā, and it corrects the picture: she is a middling heroine, not a naïve one.
