utphullaṁ kila kurvatī kuvalayaṁ devendra-patnī-śrutau
utphullaṁinto full bloom — what she opens it into acc., predicate of kuvalayamखिला हुआ (जिसे खिला हुआ कर देती है)
kilaso they say, so it is toldकहते हैं / निश्चय ही
kurvatīshe who makes [it so] — describing your fame-moonlight nom. fem. pres. part.; the subject waits until L4करती हुई (वह — जिसका पता L4 में चलेगा)
kuvalayaṁthe blue night-lotus — and, by pun, the earth-circle (ku-valaya) acc.; the śleṣa opens hereकुवलय को (नील कमल / पृथ्वीमण्डल — यहीं श्लेष खुलता है)
devendra-patnī-śrutaureaching the ear of Indra's queen, Śacī loc.; the clause runs on into L2देवराज इन्द्र की पत्नी (शची) के कानों में
kuvalayaṁ utphullaṁ kurvatī — making the blue lotus / the earth-circle bloom; devendra-patnī-śrutau — into the ear of Indra's queen, Śacī…
This verse praises Rādhā entirely through her fame, and the fame is figured all the way through as moonlight — the phrase 'your fame-moonlight' (yaśaḥ-kaumudī) lands only in L4, but it governs everything. Watch each image work on two levels at once. First: it makes the kuvalaya bloom. As moonlight it opens the blue night-lotus; as fame it makes the whole earth-circle (ku + valaya) flower. And it reaches the ear of Śacī, Indra's queen — the sentence carries over into the next line.
The lead-in is 'atha jagac-chreṇī-lasad-yaśāḥ' — 'now, she whose glory shines across the ranks of the worlds.' The verse is one long śleṣa (double meaning): every image reads at once as Rādhā's yaśas (fame) and as kaumudī (moonlight), the two joined by the poets' convention that both are white and both spread everywhere.

Jīva justifies the pun on kuvalaya, the word the whole śleṣa hinges on. It can mean the disc of the earth — that fits the fame layer (fame spreads over the earth). And it can mean the kumuda, the night-lily — that fits the moonlight layer (moonlight opens the night-lily). So the one word properly carries both readings at once.

On 'having melted [the moonstone]': here, Jīva says, the poet is simply indulging in prauḍhokti — licensed hyperbole. Moonstone melting under moonlight is already a poetic conceit; that fame should melt it is the poet's bold exaggeration, not a claim to be defended.

Now the suggestion (dhvani) behind the tiny jasmine. The word kunda hints that Śacī lives shut inside a dark cave — blinded by her absorption in great heavenly pleasures. Only a narrow window lets any light in: her bare divinity. Through that slit your fame-moonlight squeezes, reaches just her one ear, and — so little of it gets through — takes only the shape of a small jasmine. The jasmine's smallness measures how little of your glory penetrates a heart clouded by sense-enjoyment.

dhvani = poetic suggestion, meaning carried beyond the literal words. Here the kunda's smallness suggests how little of Rādhā's glory reaches a sense-absorbed heart — the first rung of the gradation the commentary builds to in s15–s17. Source reads 'patryā' for patnyāḥ.

Out in that open moonlight, far more of the fame reaches her. That is why her hairs — the herbs — thrill and stand on end.
'रोम-औषधि' पद से यह ध्वनित होता है कि सावित्री विषयों की नीरसता से भरे सत्त्वगुण रूपी चन्द्रशाला (चाँदनी वाली छत) के आँगन में रहती है।

So far the fame has filled all the material worlds — earth, nether worlds, heavens. Now, Viśvanātha says, the verse shows it reaching even the transcendent (aprākṛta) realm. That is what the next phrase, 'karṇottaṁsa…', states.

sudhāṁśu-ratna-śakalaṁ — the moonstone fragment; candrakānta-śilā-khaṇḍaṁ — that is, a piece of moonstone rock; vidrāvya pradravī-bhāvaṁ prāpayya — having melted it to a flowing state; tad-druta-jala-klinna-aṅgīṁ tāṁ kṛtvā — having made her (Lakṣmī) soaked with that melt-water; cakitāṁ śaṅkā-jāḍya-vismaya-stimitāṁ cakāra — made her cakitā, stunned still with alarm, numbness, and wonder.

Viśvanātha unpacks the melting. The 'moonstone fragment' is a piece of candrakānta rock. Your fame-moonlight melts it to liquid; the melt-water drenches Lakṣmī's limbs; and so it makes her cakitā — which he reads as stunned motionless with a mix of alarm, dumbstruck numbness, and wonder.

cakitā is glossed by three states held frozen (stimita): śaṅkā (alarm), jāḍya (numb stupefaction), and vismaya (wonder).

Viśvanātha reads the two words 'melted' and 'astonished' together: they indicate that Lakṣmī is pervaded by your fame-moonlight both outside and inside — because she is utterly transparent, with no material stain left to block it. Contrast Śacī, who let in only a jasmine's worth. The clearer the vessel, the fuller the light's entry — the point the conclusion will state.

The source prints 'prākṛtatva-māliny-aśūnyā,' which literally reads 'not devoid of material taint' — this sits against atisvacchā ('utterly transparent') and against the doctrine of full entry, which both require mālinya-śūnyā, 'free of material taint.' Decoded to the sense the argument demands and flagged as a likely textual corruption; not silently resolved.

tṛtīyāyāṁ — in the third, Lakṣmī; bahir-antaḥ-sarva-aṅga-vyāptiḥ — pervasion of every limb, outside and within; sañcāri-bhāva-paryanta-udayaḥ — ecstasy rising up to the transient moods; iti — so; svacchatva-tāratamyena eva — precisely by the degree of transparency; tvad-yaśaḥ-praveśa-tāratamyam — the degree to which your fame enters; atimāninye praveśa-abhāvaḥ ca — and in the utterly arrogant one, no entry at all; iti siddhāntaḥ ca bodhitaḥ — thus the settled doctrine is taught.

For the third, Lakṣmī: the fame pervades every limb, outside and in, and the ecstasy rises all the way up through the transient moods (sañcāri-bhāvas) — the fullest reception. Viśvanātha draws the doctrine: the degree of one's transparency exactly sets the degree to which Rādhā's glory can enter. Śacī, sense-clouded — a mere touch at the ear; Sāvitrī, in sattva — the whole body and horripilation; Lakṣmī, utterly clear — total pervasion and full ecstasy. And in the utterly arrogant person, the glory does not enter at all. That gradation, he says, is the settled teaching of the verse.
The verse becomes a ladder of receptivity: transparency — freedom from sense-clinging and from pride — sets how deeply Rādhā's glory penetrates, from no entry in the arrogant (atimānin) up to full inner-and-outer pervasion with sañcāri-bhāva in the wholly transparent. sañcāri-bhāva = the transient, supporting emotions that feed a rasa.
