The Gauḍīya reading: the gopīs' parakīya ('another's wife') status is an appearance, not fact. Jīva flags it as bhrama (illusion) already treated in the earlier verses, hence 'as before'.

Why 'childless'? Because childbirth would ruin their figures. And once their beauty is marred, they can no longer be the ālambana — the beautiful object on which the erotic rasa rests.
As printed the locative reads 'aprasūtitve sati' ('given childlessness'), which reverses the argument. The reasoning — and the following 'tataś ca... raso'pi dūṣyate' — requires 'prasūtitve sati' ('were they to give birth'). Read as the latter; the leading a- looks carried over from 'aprasūtikā iti' just before. Anomaly flagged, not silently corrected.

And if the object is spoiled, the rasa itself is spoiled along with it. So the poet guards the rasa by making them childless.

Their beauty is shown to be a match for Kṛṣṇa's, and no less than his, by two images. In the first, Kṛṣṇa is the great emerald and the gopīs are the golden gems around him. In the second, Kṛṣṇa is the dark cloud-bank and the gopīs are the lightning flashing within it. Each image pairs his radiance with theirs as equals — proving they are fit to be his ālambana. The images make just the point of matched beauty; they are not pressed any further.
Why cited: Adduced to show the gopīs' beauty equals Kṛṣṇa's and is no less than his, so they qualify as the ālambana of rasa.

This verse — calling the gopīs the very shelter of the autumn rāsa's rasa — openly grants that rasa is present here. So the tradition itself accepts these pastimes as full of rasa.

Why cited: Scriptural proof that rasa is admitted to be present in the rāsa pastimes, the gopīs being its āśraya (shelter).

When Kṛṣṇa tells them 'your mothers, fathers, sons, brothers, and husbands are looking for you,' he is only teasing. His naming their kin is playful — not a literal claim that they truly have such husbands and sons.
Why cited: Cited to show Kṛṣṇa's reference to the gopīs' husbands and sons is only jest, not evidence they were truly wives and mothers.

vāstavatve — if taken as real; nindāmi ca pibāmi ca iti nyāyena — by the 'I blame it yet drink it' maxim; doṣa-āvaham eva syāt — it would only bring fault.
If those words were literal, Kṛṣṇa would be like the man in the proverb who denounces wine and drinks it anyway — self-contradicting. Taken literally, his words would only saddle the pastime with fault. So they must be jest.
Why cited: The 'I blame it yet drink it' maxim is adduced to show that a literal reading of Kṛṣṇa's kinship words would be self-contradictory and fault-ridden.

ata eva — for just this reason; śrī-śuka-vākyam — Śuka's wording is; pāyayantyaḥ śiśūn payaḥ — 'giving the infants milk'; na tu... sutān stanam — not 'nursing their own sons at the breast'.
This is why Śuka carefully writes 'giving the infants milk' — not 'nursing their own sons at the breast.' He says 'infants,' not 'their sons,' and 'milk,' not 'the breast.' The wording is chosen so the gopīs are never made out to have their own nursing children.
Why cited: Śuka's deliberate wording ('infants' and 'milk', not 'own sons' and 'breast') is cited to prove the gopīs had no children of their own — supporting 'aprasūtikā'.

In fairness, kinship words like 'son' are sometimes used literally even for such great personages. Take the episode where Sāmba carried off Lakṣmaṇā — there a verse spoken about Baladeva does exactly this.
A balancing concession: Jīva grants that scripture elsewhere uses 'son,' 'daughter-in-law,' etc. in earnest, which throws into relief that the gopī usage was only jest. It sets up the quote in s12.

The verse: Baladeva, best of the Sātvatas, accepted all the gifts and set off, honored by well-wishers, 'with his son and his daughter-in-law.' Here 'son' (Sāmba) and 'daughter-in-law' (Lakṣmaṇā) are used in earnest — a real kinship label, unlike Kṛṣṇa's jesting one for the gopīs.
