nnavaṁ kamalamujjvalaṁ kamalabandhurutkaṇṭhayā |
navaṁ kamalama fresh lotus accusative — the object being offeredएक नया कमल — जिसे भेंट किया जा रहा है
ujjvalamshining, brilliant adjective of the lotusउज्ज्वल, चमकीला — उसी कमल का विशेषण
kamala-bandhuḥthe sun — literally 'the lotus's friend' nominative — the giverकमल का बन्धु अर्थात् सूर्य — जो देने वाला है
utkaṇṭhayāout of longing, eagerly instrumental of motiveउत्कंठा से, बड़ी लालसा के साथ — इस भाव से वह देता है
kamala-bandhuḥ — the sun; utkaṇṭhayā — out of longing; navaṁ kamalam ujjvalam — [offers] a fresh, shining lotus.
The sun, out of longing, offers a fresh and shining lotus. The sun is called kamala-bandhu, 'friend of the lotus,' because his rays open the lotus. So even the sun eagerly sends his best flower.
kamala-bandhu ('friend of the lotus') is a stock name for the sun (sūrya), since the sun makes the lotus bloom. This verse is an udāharaṇa of ruṣṭa-gopī-prasādanam — 'pacifying an angry gopī' — the fifth helper-quality listed in 2.1-3.

mayā tu tadavajñayā bhuvi nirasyate ruṣyatā
mayā tubut by me instrumental agent of the passive verb; tu marks the contrast with the sunपरन्तु मेरे द्वारा — tu से सूर्य के विपरीत मैं
tad-avajñayāout of contempt for it instrumental of motiveउस कमल के प्रति तिरस्कार के कारण
bhuvionto the ground locative — where it is thrownभूमि पर — जहाँ फेंका जाता है
nirasyateit is thrown down passive present; subject is the lotusफेंक दिया जाता है — कर्मवाच्य, कर्ता वह कमल
ruṣyatāby [me] in anger present participle, instrumental, agreeing with mayāक्रोध करते हुए (मेरे द्वारा) — mayā के साथ जुड़ता है
tu — but; mayā ruṣyatā — by me, angry; tad-avajñayā — out of contempt for it; bhuvi — onto the ground; nirasyate — it is thrown down.
But I, in anger, throw that very lotus onto the ground out of contempt for it. The sun offered it with longing; I fling it away in scorn. The 'tu' sets my rudeness against the sun's devotion.

na mānayasi madvacastadapi mānini tvaṁ kutaḥ
na mānayasiyou do not honor 2nd person — addressed to Rādhāतू आदर नहीं करती — राधा से कहा जा रहा है
mad-vacaḥmy word, what I say accusative object of mānayasiमेरे वचन का — mānayasi का कर्म
tad apieven so, even then api concedes: despite all thisइतने पर भी — api से रियायत: इतना सब होने पर भी
tvaṁ kutaḥyou — why on earth? kutaḥ = 'from what cause', a reproachful 'why'तू किस कारण से — kutaḥ, उलाहने भरा 'क्यों'
mānini — O proud one; tad api — even so; tvam — you; mad-vacaḥ — my word; na mānayasi — do not honor; kutaḥ — why?
Even after all this, you do not heed a word I say. O proud one, why? He is teasing her: he has spun a whole story about the sun's lotus and his own scorn, and still she will not react. The 'why' is a coaxing reproach meant to break her sulk.
mānini names the māninī — the proud, sulking heroine whose pique the helper is trying to melt.

Jīva Gosvāmī gives no comment on this verse. He simply notes that he has left it unexplained.

tad ahaṁ na hasāmi iti"so I will not laugh" — this being her resolve iti closes the quoted thought'तो भी मैं नहीं हँसूँगी' — iti से यह मन का विचार पूरा होता है

tad-vacanam anavadhānāyāṁwhen she pays no attention to what he says locative absolute — the second conditionजब वह उसके वचन पर ध्यान ही न दे — दूसरी स्थिति
prasaṅgāntara eva mano dadhatyāṁwhen she fixes her mind only on some other matter locative absolute — the third condition; eva restricts: only on something elseजब वह किसी और ही बात में मन लगाए हो — तीसरी स्थिति; eva से 'किसी दूसरी ही बात में'

ity ata āha—yathā vā itifor that reason he says, "or else, as in" ataḥ, 'therefore'; introduces the second example with yathā vāइसलिए (ग्रन्थकार) कहते हैं 'yathā vā' — ataḥ 'इसीलिए', दूसरा उदाहरण आरम्भ करता है
"mām hāsayituṁ asau yatate; tat ahaṁ na hasāmi" iti — thinking this; haṭhinyāṁ — when she is stubborn; tad-vacanam anavadhānāyāṁ — when she ignores his words; prasaṅgāntare eva mano dadhatyāṁ — when her mind is set only on something else; tad-vaiphalyam api syāt — his effort too might be fruitless; iti ataḥ — for this reason; āha yathā vā iti — he says 'or else, as in.'
Viśvanātha explains why Rūpa now adds a second example. Suppose the heroine digs in and thinks, "He is only trying to make me laugh, so I won't laugh." Suppose she stops listening to him. Suppose she turns her mind to something else entirely. Then even the helper's effort could fail. It is for this case that Rūpa says "yathā vā" — "or else, take this second example." The three conditions are stubbornness, inattention, and a distracted mind.
yathā vā ('or else, as in') is the editorial tag by which Rūpa strings a second illustrative verse onto the first.

ruṣyatā akṛta-snāna eva kamalam ānaiṣīs tad idam apavitraṁ jātam |
ruṣyatāby [the helper] in feigned anger — [he says:] picks up ruṣyatā from the mūla; instrumental of the speakerक्रोध करते हुए (सहायक के द्वारा) — मूल का ruṣyatā यहाँ उठाया गया, बोलने वाले की तृतीया
akṛta-snāna eva kamalam ānaiṣīḥ"unbathed — you fetched the lotus without even bathing first" ānaiṣīḥ, 2nd-person aorist, 'you brought'; eva stresses 'without so much as bathing''बिना स्नान किए ही तू कमल ले आई' — ānaiṣīḥ 'तू ले आई', eva से 'स्नान तक न करके'
tad idam apavitraṁ jātam"so this flower has now become impure" tat, 'therefore'; jātam, 'has become''इसलिए यह (कमल) अपवित्र हो गया' — tat 'इसलिए', jātam 'हो गया'
ruṣyatā — by [him] angry [it is said]; akṛta-snānaḥ eva — you being unbathed; kamalam ānaiṣīḥ — you brought the lotus; tat idam apavitraṁ jātam — therefore this has become impure.
Now Viśvanātha fills in the pretext behind the mūla's word ruṣyatā, 'in anger.' The helper — Viśvanātha leaves him unnamed — scolds her in mock fury: "You fetched the lotus without even bathing first, so now the flower is polluted." It is a made-up complaint — the point is to bait a reaction out of her, not a real ritual objection.
akṛta-snāna, 'unbathed,' invokes the rule that one handles flowers for worship only after bathing; touching them unclean makes them apavitra, ritually impure. The helper uses the rule as a joking pretext.

atas tvām asmāt paricaraṇād dūrīkariṣyāmīti krudhyatā ||
ataḥ"and so" draws the mock conclusion from s2इसलिए — s2 से बनावटी निष्कर्ष निकालता है
tvām asmāt paricaraṇāt dūrī-kariṣyāmi"I will drive you far from this service" dūrī-kariṣyāmi, 1st-person future; ablative asmāt paricaraṇāt, 'from this service''तुझे इस सेवा से दूर कर दूँगा' — dūrī-kariṣyāmi भविष्यत् उत्तम पुरुष; asmāt paricaraṇāt 'इस सेवा से' (पंचमी)
iti krudhyatā— so [says he] in anger iti closes the quoted threat; krudhyatā resumes ruṣyatā of s2, instrumental of the speaker'ऐसा' — iti से यह धमकी पूरी होती है; krudhyatā, s2 के ruṣyatā को फिर उठाता है, बोलने वाले की तृतीया
ataḥ — and so; tvām asmāt paricaraṇāt dūrī-kariṣyāmi — I will remove you far from this service; iti krudhyatā — thus [says he] in anger.
Viśvanātha finishes the mock threat. Still pretending to be furious, the helper says: "And so I will banish you from this service of worship." This is the anger the mūla's ruṣyatā points to — a staged scolding, capped with a threat to throw her out of the puja, all to needle the sulking heroine into responding.
paricaraṇa is the personal service or attendance of worship; the pretend threat is to bar her from it.
