kalena madhurāsphuṭena dhvanitā krīḍantī yā vaṁśī — the flute that plays, sounded with a kala, i.e. sweet-and-indistinct, tone; tayā iti — 'by that' [reads the compound]; bhaya-pradarśanena — by this showing of a threat; tasya — of him [Hari]; kāma-tantra-kalā-aveditvaṁ dhūrtatvaṁ ca — his being versed in the arts of the science of love, and his slyness; vyañjitam — are suggested.
Now Viśvanātha unpacks the flute-compound from line 3. He reads kala as the flute's tone: sweet, and not quite distinct. So it means 'by that playing flute.' Then he asks what the messenger is really doing by mentioning it. She is displaying a threat: look what that flute already does to every woman. And by holding up that danger she hints at two things about Hari, without saying them straight out. One: he is a master of the arts of love — he knows the whole science. Two: he is sly, a charming rogue. Both are suggested, not stated.
kāma-tantra is the technical literature of love (the science of erotics); aveditva is being learned in it. dhūrta is the stock 'cunning gallant.' vyañjita is technical: meaning hinted by suggestion (vyañjanā), not spoken directly — the whole force of the line rests on what is implied.
