Therefore, with the intention "please tell the deeds of Śrī Kṛṣṇa," they speak the verse beginning kṛtavān.
Atimartyāni means deeds that surpass mortals, such as the lifting of Govardhana — that is, deeds impossible among human beings.
But how could He, being human, perform such superhuman deeds? To this the verse replies with the word kapaṭa-mānuṣa.
The word mānuṣa is understood to mean a particular earthly body; therefore He appears human only by disguise. In reality, however, since His humanlike form is Para-brahman, even apart from ordinary humanity He certainly possesses an uncommon humanity, one obtained through His human form and human līlā. The sense is that this uncommon humanity is not rejected, because it does not contradict His majesty. Indeed, this is why, in the Syamantaka episode, the words "thinking Him an ordinary person" reveal Jāmbavān's mistaken understanding: His ordinariness is denied while His personhood is established. The same is to be understood in statements such as "O learned one, speak of the māyā-human." Because He is kapaṭa-mānuṣa, He is hidden; yet in Himself, in that very form, He is Bhagavān.
[Śrī Kṛṣṇa-sandarbha 72]
They clarify His exploits with the verse beginning kṛtavān.
Although He is mortal in appearance, since His human form is Para-brahman, His deeds such as the lifting of Govardhana surpassed mortals and were impossible for the humans of that time. Even so, He remains hidden.
The reason for this is now given.
He is kapaṭa-mānuṣa in this sense: among ordinary humans such as Jarāsandha, His "deception" took the form of disguises such as the brāhmaṇa dress and the request made for the devotees' welfare; and among the nonordinary humans, the gopīs drawn by His flute, His "deception" took the form of instructions on dharma and the like, for the play of prema. (By the gaḍu-class rule the locative is placed after.) Thus He bewildered all those various persons by His māyā.
The meaning is that He is hidden because He gives the impression "one who deceives cannot be the Lord."
They make His heroism clear in the verse beginning kṛtavān.
Atimartyāni means deeds impossible for even the mighty mortals of that time to perform. He is hidden, impossible to recognize as Bhagavān, because among humans such as Jarāsandha He took on a disguise for the devotees' welfare — such as begging in the dress of a brāhmaṇa. (The locative is placed after by the gaḍu rule.)
